I picked up this AMD slide of the 5970x2 which seems to look like the final model.
In this same thread you can view pics of a disassembled 59x0 and see for yourself that the PCB supports 2x 8pin (=375 Watts) connectors. It may be well possible that this is the 'big surprise' AMD was talking about, beyond the given fact of dual-gpu cards. This could end up to be a 5970 with its full potential unleashed - higher core and memory clocks than a standard 5870. Modern day PSUs wouldn't have problems powering a 375 watts card and with the size of the card, thermals could most likely be kept under control as well. Interesting speculation for sure ![]() Edit: Slide embedding:

Too long, do not want. I am hoping non-reference designs are much shorter.

It has the DVIs next to each other rather than stacked so it's entirely possible to turn it into a single-slot watercooled solution. Charlie teased by saying his sources confirm the 2x8-pin, which makes it a possible truth just a bit more.
When I read about 5970 being watered down to meet power contraints, actually being slower than 5870's in CF I was quite bummed and decided I would probably not upgrade. But if AMD is really going to release a full fledged beefed up 5970 running at full specs-and-a-bit-more then this will definitely hit my "to buy" list. I surely ain't going to wait till the end of Q1 for Fermi - That would have to be released no later than at most the end of Januari to even consider Fermi for a purchase.

copper has a density of 8920 kg/m3. so if you calculate the theoretical dimensions of the copper waterblock ergo figuring out the volume, you can go ahead and use the following formula: mass = volume * density

Being that the 4870 X2 is only 2.5 pounds (still a good bit of weight for a card, the 5970 should be only about ~3 to 3.5 pounds.
