As for scaling, well mine scale VERY well. I get almost 2x the FPS when I crossfire them.

And from all the benchies I've read 2 4870 1GB's usually beat out 5770's. Not by a huge margin but enough to be noticeable. However, most of those benchies were run with older and immature drivers. Perhaps the new ones will make better use of the hardware.
LOL, Consider this.

a 4870x2 vs my 5770 crossfire my crossfire would win period. the 5770s in crossfire compare slightly faster than a 5870. a 5870 is at least 40% faster than a 4870x2. Theres no comparison!

i wasnt talking about idle temps. I believe a 5770 idles at 18w and loads @ 108 or something like that. My 2 in crossfire idle @ 40c thats 0% fan speed

Um, a 4870x2 is better than a 5870 more often than not in terms of performance. It's certainly not 40% worse, it's basically equal(if not a little better).

I'd like to see it. From all the benchies I've read, the 5770's get beaten by 4870's. Period.
And I wasn't talking about a 4870x2, but 2x 4870 1GB's. There is a difference. For example my rig @ 3600MHz with both of my GPU's in, only scores 1700 points less in 3dmark06 than a rig with a 940 clocked @ 3510 and 2 4870x2's.

keep you 4850, its more then enough now for cod l4d 2 ( not crysis of course ) I'd wait till nvidia takes the new cards out, to see what they have to offer or simply to see a price drop from ati's side

I'd go one further and say just wait till there's a game out, which you want, that has DX11 till you buy one. There's not going to be many around for a while yet. By the time there are a few (hopefully) fermi will be here and the price should have dropped significantly.
The performance increase is probably not worth the step up. E.G. it would be less than stepping up to a 4870 atm.

4850s a good card, keep it a while longer.

Not a significant upgrade, but may give you a decent increase if you play at a high res and use the vRAM.

Thanks for all the quick responses! The other part of the story that I didnt mention is that the fan on my 4850 is pretty loud and its getting really annoying. A friend of mine was here the other day and despite hearing it said that he would offer me $100 for it. So basically I would only be spending an additional $100 on the the 5770. Dirt 2 is also on my must play list and i figured that being a direct x 11 game it would look better on the 5770 than on my 4850. Thanks again for all the feedback even if It wasnt exactly what i wanted to hear.

hm. I really don't think it's worth spending an extra $100 to get a tiny upgrade, could you stretch for a 5850?

I'd like to say hell yea its worth the upgrade!

I used to have a single 4890 and honestly this single card creams it in all of my old games!
From all the review I've seen a 4890 is faster then a stock 5770...

You can get a new 4850 for $100, or buy a used one on here for much cheaper. Take the savings from buying here and get an aftermarket cooler for your louder one.
