Default alternative to dvi to vga adapter?

How come every new GPU I buy comes with the weird plug that doesn't fit the traditional blue ones of my home monitors? The only way to make it work seems to be to get one of those adapters, but I currently don't have one and I live in a small town. Is there any way around it?

DVI and HDMI are the standard for output plugs. VGA is slowly starting to fade away.
Most new monitors use DVI or HDMi which is the reason for the plugs being on the cards, plus they provide better signal.

Oh ok thank you for this. so without this i'm essentially screwed and unable to use my new card until I wait a week or two (and pay like $10 for shipping and the $20 for the adapter itself since I can't shop off Newegg)?

If you just bought a new GPU you should have one of these plugs in the box which will allow you to use a VGA monitor on the DVI plug.

The only time I ever got one was when I bought a 8800GT 2 years ago.

VGA(your blue cable) is analog, whereas DVI is digital. There is no way you can plug your monitor into a graphics card that only has DVI outputs unless your monitor also happens to have a DVI input in addition to the VGA input and you happen to have a DVI cable nearby.

Have graphics card manufacturers stopped including DVI to VGA adapters with their cards? I have half a dozen adapters at home because every graphics card I've ever purchased since DVI was introduced has come with at least one adapter.

Strange, every card I ever bought including the Sapphire 5770 I got today had one or two in the box. Very strange. Maybe your customer has one already available to them.
