Default Help with overlocking 5850 to 5870?

Hey guys,

I am new to overclocking graphics cards. I got tips from overclocking my CPU and it is working perfectly. I was wondering if overclocking my XFX will ruin my warranty? What do I need to do to overclock my card?

Thanks in advance!

No, it won't void your warranty. XFX allow overclocking and modding (the installation of an aftermarket GPU or waterblock) in their warranty.

To overclock, you can use ATi Tray Tools, or CCC.

You'd need to buy a 5870...5850 isn't going to overclock that far.

[ 11/6/2009 1:31:15 AM] Would flashing the bios on my XFX 5850 void the warranty?

[WILLIAM_W 11/6/2009 1:34:45 AM] Hello John, an Unauthorized video card flash would void the warranty as we don`t post video card BIOS files on our website and they are not available directly from us to the public. In some rare cases we`ve given out video card BIOS files with instructions but it almost never happens and it needs to go through us to avoid voiding the warranty. William.

[ 11/6/2009 1:50:31 AM] Is this anything you could advise for me to try to reach higher clocks on my graphics card? I know all the 5800 series cards are reference cards from ATI but Asus and MSI can overclock way higher with their own tools. I`m limited to the Catalyst Control Center which can only reach 775/1125. Thank You.

[BRIAN 11/7/2009 12:35:18 AM] Hi, you can try a program called rivatuner. However, keep in mind that overclocking is not an exact science and it will depend on the card itself on how far it can be overclocked. Some cards are able to be overclocked higher than others and some may not be able to overclock at all. Thanks, brian.

Huh? What are you smoking?

To the OP, you will probably need to be around 925/1200 to compare to a STOCK 5870.

To OC and to adjust voltage 5850/5870 you need MSI afterburner.

Or Asus Voltage Tweak... Keep in mind that you're still missing SP's, so you're limited no matter what.
