Just installed Windows 7 with radeon 4870 and I see Physx in the control panel. I thought it was an Nvidia app? Is it part of Windows 7? If it's not needed can it be uninstalled?

If it is not causing any problems or stability issues I say leave it. You can try to disable or uninstall and test results also.

XFX are made by NVIDIA, could be related to that don't know 100% -- not bothering anything though?

because it could have come with the nforce drivers? or maybe you didnt uninstall your old nvidia gpu drivers?

It's included in games that support PhysX. They need the libraries so that the game can at least attempt software mode PhysX.

xfx are NOT made by Nvidia. xfx used to make only Nvidia cards, now they make both.

Physx runtime libraries are still installed for games that need it, they are run on the cpu.

by the way xfx is not made by nvidia, xfx makes nvidia and ATI cards now
