I can confidently say that Crysis and Far Cry 2 are still more playable (in terms of image quality
erformance) on my GTX 275 1792MB (albeit much faster than a GTX 285) than any 5870.fc2 and crysis were more optimized for the nvidia architecture so of course... it performs better but the 5870 will smack your gtx 275 around http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0,2422-13.html even if your graphics card is much faster than a gtx 285 the 5870 still outperforms it and as for the OP i'd say go for the 5770.. low power consumption great graphics and at a reasonable price.. i'd say it'd be good for 2 years

u buy a card after 2 years... its a long time bro. the 5770 is a very good card but for now not for days r coming. see the 5870 and gtx 285 is comparable. if u leave the dx 11 thing 285 is nearly same. where as nvidia's best offering is still performs better then ati just ati have the dx 11 support. so ati's dx 11 cards r actually nvidia's dx 10 class equivalent ( when we r thinking about performance not dx 11 support ). we can easily say that nvidia's next offering will be much faster then their own gtx 285 and gtx 295 ( what is still outperforming the 5890 ) as a result that will be must be faster then 5870. if the gt300 ( or farmi) is better then 5870 then it's dual gpu solution will be better then 5870x2 or 5970. but rumor says that farmi is going to double the performance of its previous generation.

To summarize: You are saying that the 5870 and the GTX285 are nearly the same except for DX11 support? Have you read any of the dozens of reviews floating around comparing the 5870 to the GTX285? I have yet to see a single one that has the GTX285 ahead of the 5870. In fact the 5850 is faster than the GTX285 as well. You stated that the GTX295 is outperforming the 5890? How can this be? The 5870 outperforms the GTX295 (and in many cases the 4870X2) on its own. Seeing as the 5890 has not been released (other than some leaked benches), we will have to wait and see. Rumors also stated that the 5870 would be twice as fast as prior generation ATI chips (in this case, it is on par with two 4870's and faster in some cases).

From a 8400GS? It would be many many times better. I believe it's more like a dx11 4870, but uses a lot less power and is QUIETER
