Hi
I just built this rig - http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...bit-ip35.html? Using GPU-Z, the GPU temp is at around 40 c, after using ATI's overdrive auto overclock utilty. Is 860 core and 1350 mem a good overclock for this card? However, my main gripe is that the fan speeds up to 40% every now & then. My last ATI card was a 9800pro SE - been using 7600GT, 9600GT and 8800GT G92 since. These Nvidia cards are quite during desktop use, and the fan only kicks in when a 3D app is launched. Is there any way the same could be had with the 3870? |

There should be an option in CCC that only enables the overclock in 3D mode (when gaming), and clocks back to stock in desktop... poke about a little.
It could've been an third-party tool too, but IIRC I saw it on CCC myself... I don't have Windows on my only machine with ATI GPU anymore, though, so can't check up on it for ya

Oh okay... what kinda cooler do you have, and is the heatskin clean of any dust? Crappy stock coolers and dust usually are the culprit of this kinda issues... before jumping to conclusions, though, I'd have your GPU temps logger and check how high it gets when the fan spins up, sometimes the software is overly protective and will up the fans even though the heat is well within acceptable limits.
