Default Stable 4890 Overclock

I have the Sapphire 4890 OC Edition with clocks at 901/1000, trying to find a stable overclock for gaming but can't seem to find one. I'm testing the overclocks on Borderlands right now and when overclocking the games freezes and I have to hit the restart button. I tested with furmark, the highest core clock without artifacting is 950. Highest memory clock with out artifacting is 1085. Shouldn't these clocks be stable in-game. I've also tried lower clocks like 925/1050 but still locks up. I have MSI Afterburner so I could raise the voltage to 1.35V but it's not artifacting so is there any point?

a 4890 should be able to handle borderlands 60+ I dont see why you need to lower the life of your 4890 by ocing

I find Borderlands to be a poor test for an OC with my 4890. I just get random issues in that game period. Most of the time it's fine but every once in awhile it just bugs out even at stock (this doesn't happen with any other games that I own and have tested with the card). I'd do some testing in other games as well. Without a voltage bump I can do 975 core adn 1100 memory with no problems.

Just ran fraps to see what fps I am getting. Running at 1920x1080 16xAA, everything maxed and my frames are dipping down to 38 and up to 62.

Outside of Krom's Canyon and the Scrapyard which dip to around 45 fps I'm pretty much always at 60 fps (I have v-sync enable for reference so I'm not sure what I'd run without v-sync on to limit my max). So you are sitting alright.

Still weird why I can't get a stable overclock in Borderlands. Every other game I can run fine at 950/1085 stable except this one and GRID.

Well I did just tell you that Borderlands acts strange for me too. It's not your card it's the game. Hopefully the crazy random issues will be resolved when the 9.11's come out or Borderlands gets a patch. I cannot speak for Grid I don't have that game.

What clocks are you running on your card then? If I set the core voltage to 1.4V through Gpu tool, I can run at 1000/1100 and run fallout 3 for hours at 1920x1080 8XAA, 15XAA, Ultra settings and get a constant 60FPS. Didn't think borderlands was that demanding but must be just the drivers.
