Default Asus DK 4870 Volt Mod

Does anyone have any information on vold modding an EAH4870 1GB Dark Knight? I have pretty much concluded that soft/bios modding is not possible or at least not yet known how to. I'm not sure if it's due to it using a different regulator than Volterra VT1103/VT1105/VT1165 or what. I'd like to get some information if any kind of volt modding can be done, even hard modding.

I was hoping for maybe a bios mod to do the trick, but if not, I would even be willing to hard mod. If it would help, I can take some macro pictures of the board. Any help would be appreciated, I've done a lot of searching but can't find a single shred of mod information on this model.

OK, decided to take a few quick pictures of the board to see if anyone can at least identify the voltage regulator('s?) for me. I have no idea what to look for really, so I just took snaps of full top and back then close ups of the back starting from the DVI side moving up to the PCI-E power connectors. I have much higher resolution ones as well. If someone can point me in the general area, I will post an extreme closeup of that area alone if needed.

You can use GPU Tool to see and adjust voltage is you have the right vt regulator. If you see info similar to the pic below, you don't have an adjustable regulator and will have to hard mod your card. There is a vmod tutorial somewhere here on OCN.

The thing that really pisses me of is my card does..I think( Almost all asus cards do). At least with the right bios, however most programs won't work. It is almost like Asus forced voltage control to only work in Smart Doctor.

I recommend the OP PM's this thread to CL3P20....the resident voltmod master surely can hunt you something down

If GPUtools does not support it does not have a voltage regulator. Only possible way is hard mod which only some people can do.

No software I have tried(now including the one linked above, GPU-Tool) will even show the voltages. I had already come to the conclusion of what you all are saying, only hard modding was available. This just made it more concrete.

Main reason I posted the pics was to find out if anyone knew how/where to start on hard modding this pcb type(non-reference) since I'm sure following a reference 4870 hard volt mod guide would surely end in disaster with this particular card. I'm quite capable of applying the hard mods, as in I can and have used all the tools required to do so before. I mainly wanted concrete evidence that hard mods are the only way to go. Now that has been pretty much confirmed, I just need someone to lead me to some help which part of the board/diodes to start looking at. I will take the above advice and PM CL3P20 to see if he can help get me started.(As long as that remark wasn't in jest or something).

Anyway, thanks for at least replying and offering what help you could. I won't be doing the mods right away anyway, just trying to be prepared for when I do. I am waiting on new PSU/Mobo/CPU before I delve into the mods. Planning on GIGABYTE GA-MA785G-UD3H/Phenom II X2 550 and some 650w+ 2x40amp 12v PSU.
