Default Radeon 3450 - really gets me hot!

Have a Radeon 3450 w/512 RAM, came as a video upgrade on Dell Vostro 220s, card is half height and has a DVI and an HDMI output (I have no HDMI capable monitor).

I know there are some models of this card that support dual monitors, and others that do not but I don't know how to tell if the one I have does or not.

I bought a cable that carries the DVI signal and the four pin analogue, so it is a single cable that has two ends. One end is DVI, the other is standard VGA.

If I connect two monitors, only the VGA monitor works. If I disconnect the VGA cable at the monitor side then the DVI monitor will start working. So I know there is output on both, but seems not both at the same time.

In Windows XP it seems to see two monitors, and gives me the option to extend the desktop but if I click it nothing seems to happen. It just returns to the menu and automatically unchecks the extend desktop option.

Anyone know how to tell if the model of card I have should support dual monitors?
