Default Will XFX RMA despite screws being different

I had a Scythe Musashi cooler on my XFX 4870 and it developed a Critical Core Power Fault after a few months. I went to switch coolers and realised I had lost some of the original screws.

However, I had a full set knocking about from an old 4870 waterblock and they fit perfectly. Would they mind that the screws are different?

Left is original:

I am sure they won't mind, just RMA and wait and see, worst comes to the worst, say it came like that and hold your ground.

they might, but it's worth a try.

A Critical Core Power Fault eh? Did you have the VRMs cooled, or s that even related?

I have no idea what caused the core failure. It worked fine for months and then, bam, keeps crashing and displaying this warning.

Another issue now, cooler is back in. I boot the PC and everything shows fine, but I notice the graphics card fan spins for a second, stops, spins for a second, stops, spins for a second, stops etc...

Gets to booting Windows and crashes, i'm guessing GPU over heat? Knowing how hot they are even with the fan at 20%, must be boiling at 0% :/

Any ideas?

hmmm...

I have no clue. Bad capacitors perhaps? that'd explain the card's issues as well.

Worst XFX can do is tell ya it's out of warranty and send it back.

Considering you don't seem to have another option @TM what else can you do?

Where did the original screws go anyway? just lose them in the regular course of things?

when I take off a cooler I usually like to put it semi-assembled into a zip-lock baggy, especially if it has thermal pads I don't want to get dusty.

As long as you didn't mix and match and they are all the same, I think it'll be OK. I think it depends on the company. I have always been curious as to the proceedure of checking RMA's. Is is random? Do you have a better chance of getting a questionable RMA through on a Friday afternoon when the techs want to go home?

I'd just put the screws you have there, if they work without the washers that may be less obvious. Otherwise just say it came like that.
