Rooting Transformer TF101 (Tested on 9.2.1.21)

Ok, so I've had my TF101 for a few months now and I've been reading a lot about rooting. There are lots of benefits to rooting, especially on this tablet. Possibities include installing a custom ROM or kernel. With a new kernel you can do lots of stuff like overclocking/underclocking. Rooting is the process of accessing root user or "superuser" permissions on an android device. NOTE: Installing a new ROM or recovery WILL wipe all your saved data. DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility if as a result of using this guide, your device gets bricked. N.B. I, myself have used... read more

Linux Server Security

This guide is about how to secure Linux servers. For the most part, it should be applicable to all major distributions. (CentOS, RHEL, openSUSE, Debian) This guide assumes that you have chosen your distro and have ssh and root access. If you personal machine is running Windows, I assume you're using PuTTY for SSH, if you are using the OpenSSH client, then follow the Linux steps instead of the Windows ones1. Normal AccountsCreate an account with a hard to guess username and password, this is a must. This account shouldn't have an entry in any sudoers file or have access... read more

Getting Started with Radeon HD 7970 Overclocking

Getting started was a little bit tricky, coming in late to the 7970 game.  This How-To shows, using just Afterburner, how to get into overclocking the 7970, and removing some of the limits imposed by the drivers/registry.  There are a few ways to go about doing this, one or two patches floating around etc, but this is just the what I used to get things rolling.   Software I Used: Using the latest Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 15, 12.4 Beta Catalyst, 12.3 CAP1   Best Way To Start: Clean uninstall using AtiMan.  Then Install of your choice of drivers and CAP... read more

Repair Start-Menu Right Click

SO, you have configured Win7 or Vista (32 or 64-bit) JUST the way you like it, except one small catch, you can't seem to right click inside the Start Menu?   Really simple fix, its just a setting change, and yes it CAN get turned on itself as I discovered.   A lot of suggestions said do a system restore, scan the hard-disk, but this is where you should go to first before deciding Windows has packed in and needs a reformat/repair.     Problem / Symptoms: Unable to Right Click icons in the Start-Menu. Unable to Drag/Drop icons in the... read more

AppV Management Console Crashing Repair

Symptom: AppV (App-V) management console begins crashing post startup, after selecting an individual package/software (for example: Photoshop.) Type of error is a runtime exception and no matter what you do, seems unable to be fixed. Re-installing has been reported to work (why it works is related to the fix) but the issue re-appears soon after that. System & Version: Windows 7 (x64) - All Versions AppV Management Server 4.5 SP1 - Management Console specifically. Note: Client is 4.6 SP1 and this should work for all 64-bit versions of Windows, might be in a slightly... read more

Cpu And Gpu Usage Along With Fps In Game

I searched this forum and couldn't find a guide on how to have both GPU usage and FPS, which is something you can have nowadays with MSI Afterburner, along with CPU usage. I read many threads of people having to Alt-Tab out of a game to go look at the Task Manager CPU usage graphs to figure out if their CPU was bottlenecking the GPU or not. Well, there is a simple way to have all three, CPU, GPU and FPS (and many other parameters if you like) on-screen during your games. Head here to learn how to do it:... read more

  • by tombom

Tombom's guide to playing team fortress 2 correctly in a pub (for pl and cp [not ctf, sorry]):When you play in a public server, there are a few types of games that you can play. You can play one of the most common types 12 v 12 (24 man servers), 16 v 16 (32 man servers), or 6v6 (competitive league format). There's also 8v8 and 9v9 but they're not very popular. The most common types of servers you will play on are 16v16 and 12v12, which I will refer to as pubs from now on.So, there are a handful of things I think that are important to being able to play as a team well in... read more

How to enable Auto Logon in Windows 7

  • by Kieran

There are people out there (like me) that don’t want to bother with using a password to protect their Windows user account. But even if you don’t have a password you will find that you still have to click your user icon to start the login process. By following the steps below you can stop that from happening. 1. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the “Run” dialog box 2. Type control userpasswords2 and press Enter. The user accounts window will appear. 3. Uncheck the option “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer” 4. Click... read more
