Default 3DMark06 - Raising my clocks lowered my score

I'm kind of confused with this and wondering if anyone else has seen this.

This is my result with the CPU at 4GHz and the GPU at 756/1512/1260
20468

Then I decided to bump the GPU to 756/1556/1296 and I get this
19147

What the hell?

these things happen you need to find a way to work around them, thats what seperates the good benchmarkers from the people who just have good hardware and bench.

Hence why I posted here

I never claimed to be a good benchmarker. I need to practice a lot more so if I can get some tips here at overclock.net, it would help me to become a "good benchmarker".

That happens when the GPU is overclocked too high. You could try to run the test a few times to see if it doesn't mess up one of the times, thats worked for me before.

i want you to be a good benchmarker but the only way for that to happen is hours and hours of trial and error. you do it enough times you see how doing certain things can change your score for better or worse. from here if i were you i would try raising one clock at a time and see its effect.
