I just found this if it helps
ORIGINAL: Afterburner Here... A cut and paste of Shansmi's info.... First thing I do is defrag your hard drives. Next I go into Control Panel >> User Accounts >> Turn User Account Control Off or On then I unceck the box to turn off UAC. Next I go into the Screen Saver CP and set that to none as well as go into the power settings and make sure it is set to "never" at the first level. After I have tweaked the power settings for the High Performance profile to never shut anything down. Now I totally remove my virus protection/firewall 3rd party package completely even if that means manually removing directories and editing the registry. Next I reboot. Once back in Windows I run this BAT file to kill all the services I know I do not need....(I used Black Vipers list as well as what Windows would let me stop until I crashed to make this list). net stop "APC UPS Service" net stop "Apple Mobile Device" net stop "Application Information" net stop "IPsec Policy Agent" net stop "Windows Firewall" net stop "IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules" net stop "Base Filtering Engine" net stop "Bonjour Service" net stop "Computer Browser" net stop "Cryptographic Services" net stop "Desktop Window Manager Session Manager" net stop "WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service" net stop "DHCP Client" net stop "Diagnostic Policy Service" net stop "Diagnostic System Host" net stop "Distributed Link Tracking Client" net stop "DNS Client" net stop "FLEXnet Licensing Service" net stop "Function Discovery Provider Host" net stop "Function Discovery Resource Publication" net stop "IP Helper" net stop "iPod Service" net stop "LVCOMSer" net stop "Machine Debug Manager" net stop "Network Connections" net stop "Network List Service" net stop "Network Location Awareness" net stop "Workstation" net stop "Network Store Interface Service" net stop "Offline Files" net stop "PD91Agent" net stop "PLFlash DeviceIoControl Service" net stop "Portable Device Enumerator Service" net stop "Print Spooler" net stop "Process Monitor" net stop "Secondary Logon" net stop "Server" net stop "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)" net stop "Shell Hardware Detection" net stop "Software Licensing" net stop "UPnP Device Host" net stop "SSDP Discovery" net stop "Superfetch" net stop "System Event Notification Service" net stop "Tablet PC Input Service" net stop "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" net stop "Terminal Services" net stop "Themes" net stop "WebClient" net stop "Windows Defender" net stop "Windows Error Reporting Service" net stop "Windows Time" net stop "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" net stop "KtmRm for Distributed Transaction Coordinator" net stop "Security Center" net stop "Windows Update" net stop "Human Interface Device Access" net stop "Windows Search" net stop "Windows Module Installer" After that I confirm all the "fluff" services have really been stopped by looking at Control Panel >> Adminstrative Tools >> Services. I sort that list by the "Status" column with "Started" at the very top to make things easy to look at. Now once that is done, I go a little further by using Process Explorer to kill startup applications like Adobe, Sound card stuff, RAID monitoring stuff etc. Remove all media from your floppy, USB and or CD/DVD drives. Update: to kill off you Virus/Malware protection, boot into Safe Mode. Go into Control Panel >> Administrative Tool >> Services and "Disable" and services related to those packages. Now to keep from getting any errors in Windows, go into MSCONFIG and on the Startup tab, un-check any of the boxes that start GUI applications related to those packages. This should work for most packages but I have tested these instructions against ESS. Do NOT forget to turn you packages back on by doing the reverse of the steps noted above. Now, just let things sit for 5-10 minutes just to make sure some application does not start back up. Windows does have a few watchdog timers that have popped on me before so I wait a bit here for that reason. Now, launch your GPU OC tool ie. Precision or RT etc and set your GPU OC. Now Launch Vantage or Mark06. Do not run the benchmark application until all HD activity stops as seen by the LED on your case. *** Now this assumes you booted to your CPU OC that you want to benchmark but that is not always true. On my i7 rig, I always boot to my daily OC and then use E-LEET right before the GPU OC step to put in my CPU OC. The beauty of this procedure is your rig will always boot back up into Normal Windows with exception of UAC and the power profile stuff. All services and tasks will restore to their normal state as long as you ONLY STOP them.
