Talking The 'Top5' reasons why I should uninstall 3DMark right now

Hey all,

So I recently formatted and did NOT re-install my 3DMark Vantage. I didn't do this on purpose, but I don't miss it. In fact, it's making me feel great! I suddenly have a lot more time to actually play the games I've been tweaking my machine to play!

So here are 5 reasons why you should uninstall 3DMark in all its forms from your computer.

1) It takes up tons of HDD space. Even if you have a lot, what that program does relative to its space requirement is ridiculous compared to CS:S and L4D. Or StarCraft for that matter.

2) It's ugly if you run it at stock settings. All the eye candy doesn't make it that much prettier, but makes your score irrelevant.

3) When you overclock your computer an extra 10 MHz and spend 10 hours stability testing it, your 3DMark score may increase. Or it may decrease a little. Or you will BSOD. Who knows...

4) It allows you to justify running your hardware at voltages and temperatures high enough to instantly fry an egg and warm an Eskimo village for the 6 month long winter.

And finally...

5) It makes that machine that you love that does all your word processing, internet surfing, music listening, game playing, and porn watching without flinching seem inadequate in every way. You will wish your computer were faster, you will buy upgrades for it that it doesn't need, and you will spend your entire life tweaking and tweaking so that in the end, if it's a little cold out and you've got the window open, if you closed all the background tasks, and if you made sure to run your machine with the side panel off, you will gain 10 points in Vantage. And then Vantage 2 will come out and rate you a score so low that you say "to hell with it" and hang yourself from your own SATA cables.

Not intended to be taken too seriously... I am mostly joking if you can't tell

I concur. I quit benching, or even installing any benching software years ago. It's heresy, but I have probably overclocked, 2-3 of the 10 machines I've owned in the last 3 years (leaving my i7 at stock).

Well this is intended mostly as a joke and as a way to voice my frustrations with 3DMark. But I am sure that at some point it will find its way back onto my system. Grrrrrr.

i quit benchmarks but my last score is still in my sig. They are irrelevant at this point and don't reflect real world performance at all. Unless of course it is a in game benchmark.
