My dad's PC keeps on locking up, how do I know the culprit? run memtest for mems? run Interburntest for CPU? how bout for the HDD? also what if the culprit is the mobo?
The locking up happens at any point, no specific situations. Happens when surfing or even just idling at the desktop. specs of my dad's rig: AMD Athlon x2 3600+ 1GB Ram Nvidia Geforce 6200 LE 40GB HDD

Hit ctl+alt+delete and check how much ram is being used.

Almost everything could cause lockups. To help you i have written up a basic to do list.
1.First make sure everything is stock, at good temps and is 100% stable (Use memtest, linx, furmark and watch the temps with realtemp) 2. If above is fine a reformat is in order. Backup everything and do a clean install. 3. If it still locks up after this its most likely the hard drive. Try another one. 4. If it still locks up, try booting it off a disc, if it still does it something isn't stable (should be stable if above is done) or it could be the mobo. Try using another one. That really is all i can suggest, sorry i couldn't help more.

I've reformatted his comp a lot of times with the same thing. Oh yeah, its running xp 32bit. I also suspected the harddrive but i have no proof... I'll try to boot off from a disc.
