I'm so sick of re-installing Windows 7 x64 and all the drivers and etc just because my 3Dmark06 score isnt withing 50 points of what it should be. Does 3Dmark06 compare to real world performance or am I just pretty much wasting hours and hours chasing a little extra performance that might not even be there or attribute to real world performance?

The reason I say you don't sound like a benching enthusiast is because overclocks on your hardware for benching just couldn't be used for everyday use of your machine as they should only be stable enough to get your runs completed and that's it

![]() If you run 3DM06 5 times on your current overclock, the score will be different every time. I mean, run 1 could lose 10 points from your current best. Run 2 you could lose 120 points from your current best and so on. In real answer to your question overall, 3DM06 and gaming do not compare well. If you want best possible performance from your hardware in games, then go for an all round stable overclock that won't give you the highest possible scores your system is capable of in bench programs. If you want highest possible benchmark scores, you'll need to clock your machine to the limit which rules out even using it for playing games. Hope I am making sense

Install OS - strip it - overclock your machine to its limits - get your highest possible scores.
THEN Re-format - setup stable overclocks - Game on and forget about benching. You'll have record of your rigs best scores and won't need to worry about it again until you upgrade and need to see what she is capable of with new hardware ![]() Otherwise, you can become a bench freak like me and spend way to much time benching rather than playing games hehe Thanks for rep buddy.
