Remembrance

Posted 09-10-07 at 09:45 PM by Chipp
As I look back on the infamous Monday morning of September 11th, 2001, I remember seeing the events taking place that morning from the perspective of a 5th grader, who was just doing worksheets in his once a week Gifted class. That morning, all seemed to be going as normal, until the TV was turned on and we saw smoking buildings on the screen. They were some faraway buildings in some faraway place, and nobody really thought much of it. We’d all seen fires before. We were 5th-graders, the kings of...

I remember I was sleeping on the couch that day six years ago; my bed had already been moved to my rented room in Irvine, CA, where I was going to university. It was my last week of vacation before the Fall Quarter, so when my dad shook me gently awake with the TV on, I was a little annoyed.

"A plane hit the World...

To remember, when leading (or trying to)

Posted 09-26-07 at 09:29 PM by Chipp
We all find ourselves in a position requiring leadership of some degree. Whether you're responsible for your kid brother, or a group of several hundred, I like this little story as a reminder of how a manager does things right. A leader does right things.

This is a story about four people: Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it.
Everybody was sure Somebody would do it.
Anybody

Fanboyism (on the eve of the market launch of Phenom)

Posted 11-19-07 at 01:44 PM by txtmstrjoe
Updated 11-24-07 at 05:11 AM by txtmstrjoe
It was as predictable as the sun rising in the east: On the cusp of a new product roll-out from AMD, the eagerly-awaited Phenom line of quad-core CPUs, PC enthusiasts of every stripe have come out of the woodwork to wage flame jihads on each other.

The Intel fanboys seize every opportunity to crow about how their Conroe dual- and quad-core CPUs still own the performance crown. They quote the latest reports from sources such as AnandTech, Tom's Hardware, and [H]ardOCP. The theme...

An interpretation of AMD's long-term strategy

First off, something to satisfy Intel die-hards (also known as stating the very obvious facts that are true as of today): Conroe is one hell of a hammer punch that hit AMD right in the solar plexus. Intel's only significant rival in the consumer CPU marketplace has lost its wind and is gasping because of the power of the blow.

This is undeniable, even after the much-ballyhooed Phenom Quad-Core line stumbled out of the gate. In all fairness, Phenom isn't the Conroe killer that AMD's...
