So, my Latin Final is in aprox. 18 days.

We actually get the final itself today, all in order with no tricks or strings attached.
I saw something like this comming but not as extreme. And extreme is not an exaggerated word.

For my Latin final, we have to memorize in order with correct spelling over 10,000 words. Yes a one and four zeros. Not only do we have to memorize over 10 thousand words, but also several sentences in English and/or Latin.

Right now I have a 70 average in Latin so far. I have to go and retake 10 tests, one a day for the next 2 weeks. And probably more to come. So, how the hell do I come close to passing this? On my midterm I got a 36%, which the "kind" 80 year old ball of dust we call a teacher decided to give me a 65% (passing). And the midterm had 5,000 words. So how does one come to cope with double that?

We're staying in the NewYorkNewYork hotel. Why we stay at there even though we're FROM NY.... don't ask. It's a very nice hotel. And its got a roller coaster that goes all the way around the building itself inside and outside along the strip! So much fun. ^_^
Ironically, I do believe Rainbow Six Las Vegas 2 comes out today! XD :wth:

I'll prolly be on occasionally during this break because I have to keep an eye on my gaming clan and its servers.

Every person (gamers) that reads an article or news report about video games causing some kid to go rampart or kill someone - we just roll our eyes because it's completely blown out of proportion no? It really truly is. It's a big 1,000 lb guerrilla in the room gamers love to feast on when it comes to the news/media today. But thats not the point of this post.

The other day, I was watching a recorded episode of "Supernanny". (Don't ask, Im very weird when it comes to TV O.o) The main point of the show is a nanny comes in and helps the parents parent their kids better with techniques and all that other crap. The episode I watched kinda centered around video games because the kids were playing alot of T+ games. Then they would turn around and repeat the violence.
(Obviously it was exaggerated like it always is  )

But when I keep thinking back to it, even though it was exaggerated, the kids were like 3-5 years old. It kinda got me putting more brain power into reading articles about "video game related incidents" then I normally would with a simple roll of my eyes.

Really, I truly believe video games are a form of art. Just like movies and novels are in a sense. They are literally made in the same way. Now, kids obviously don't realize this nor do they care. I kinda don't blame them. What Im getting to is that there are alot of positive thing about gaming in general.

Gaming helps expand the imagination of kids just like a movie or book would. Games like Final Fantasy (Im going refer to it alot - forewarning), Sonic, Resident Evil, and all those others good "oldies" for my generation really got me going as a kid. I remember I would absolutely love to play with my little plastic sword and pretend to be in my own Final Fantasy/Resident Evil adventure or something. I would spend almost all of my day basically expanding what I used to think of it as a world where anything goes.

It also helps (at least the old games) to read and expand vocabulary. Again, when I was younger I remember being able to read so great for my age that I was the ace of the class. I could use and understand what would be considered astronomical words for my grade level (but are kind of like second hand for me now) all because of games where you -HAD- to read like Final Fantasy. You wouldn't be able to not only understand what was happening but you wouldn't know what to do! Most portable games still do the reading only with maybe some voice acting. Voice acting kind of takes away from the reading experience.

And then there is hand-eye coordination, thinking outside the box more, teamwork, and all those other good things. BUT - you can't deny it.... there are negative sides to gaming too, where this is hopefully like the main beef of my post so far.

When I think back to that Supernanny episode - the nanny went ahead and explained each ESRB rating to the children. I thought that was one of the best things to do because if a child wants to buy or play a game - they should at least deserve a reason WHY NOT.

Games that are above T rating really shouldn't be allowed for kids to play (at least 8-9 or younger). Now, this is an obvious thing. But children still do!!!! Why? THE PARENTS.

Everything boils down to the parents not taking control of their children when it comes to gaming. Half the time they dont even know what an ESRB rating is until they get a hold of the box after the fact their 5 year old son is imitating language from a game like Grand Theft Auto or moves/shooting from a game like Call of Duty or Halo. Sometimes not even the game itself but the people who play multiplayer.

And then of course we see articles of some 10 year old kid turns around and shoots another kid. Regardless if it's related to video games or not
(stupid news media)..... it's the parents fault. Infact, in a way I think it gives a clue to parents that they should start taking control of their younger children playing video games (if they haven't already). But at the same time we know its a bad thing because it not only gives us gamers a bad rep, but it also leads some parents from restricting gaming completely.

Basically, all I'm trying to get to is that.... It all boils down to the parents! The news and all those people who blame video games on some incidents..... It may or may not be related to video games. We don't know ourselves 100%. But, even if it IS NOT - it's still the parents fault.

I just felt like posting this and getting it out of my system. Most people already agree on this stuff enough but I had to vent somehow.

We all heard about MGS4 taking up a full 50GB Blu-Ray disc. Whether it be Microsoft, Nintendo, Sega, Sony, ect. fans alike.

What everyone wants to know is why? Why in the world does a game at this point and time take up over 50GB!? There are games out there will supurb quality like Oblivion that easily work in a 8GB or so disc. Well, its actually not that complicated.

First, lets talk about High Definition. When it comes to HD, its not just the picture we are talking about. Its also the quality of sound and how many speakers can the sound emit from. Sound in HD is alot bigger then what you think. When we play a movie, game, or music thats in 5.1 - 7.1 sound, it works don't it? Whether it be on a DVD, HDDVD, Blu-Ray, hard drive, whatever the case may be - there is always some kind of compression that took place. Now, whether or not MGS4 has completely uncompressed audio is above and beyond what I know. But, its a major factor. Sound in full 7.1 is rather large especially when it comes to video games. And if the game is gonna be impressive, then I personally would work on sound the most. Alot of gamers are what we call "audiophiles" and they take their sound very seriously. I know I do. Before I break away from sound, lets not forget that when it comes to games - its not 1 big audio track. Its 1,000s and 1,000s of multiple sounds being played at ones. When you go to reload in a game whether it be Call of Duty, Halo, or Battlefield - you're listing up to at least 4-5 separate sound files being played! There are separate sound files for the clip being released, the magazine being pulled away, another magazine being pulled out, being put back in, and then the gun being ****ed into loaded position.

Now, lets talk about cutscenes. Easiest ways to explain this is to explain the different types of cutscenes in a game that are most common. These are ingame and pre-rendered (or FMVs). Back in the day, if you played a game like Final Fantasy VII, most cutscenes where the graphics looked extremely impressive like the opening to the game where Aeris walks out into the street.... this is known as pre-rendered. These cutscenes are just video files on the disc that play like a movie. They would normally take up as little as a sound file to as big has 1/2 the disc in total depending on how long and again - the quality of sound was in the videos. These are called FMVs by some people. Normally, especially when it came to PSX games - if you wanted these games on your computer it was as simple as popping the disc in and copy+pasting the videos onto your desktop or using a single program to extract them.

The second type of cutscenes are ingame cutscenes. These cutscenes use the video game's graphics engine to render the entire cutscene. Its simple really and allows easy transition from a fight to a discussion. These do NOT take up space on a disc. They use the same textures as if you were playing the game. The only space a cutscene thats ingame rendered that is taken up would be sound (again), motion, and props. Thats not all though, how do we know if a game is pre-rendered or ingame even when the cutscenes look alike?! Well, that all depends on the game engine. Games like RE4 believe it or not were all FMVs. That's correct. I used to be apart of an RE fanbase and I donated every cutscene possible in RE4 by simply putting the disc in my hard drive and using a program to extract the videos.

Now when we talk current next-gen games - 3/4 of the game is all ingame for the most part when it comes to cutscenes. The opening and ending(s) may not be ingame. MGS4 is all ingame rendered which means only sound, motion, and props will be take up space. Now, cutscene sound is most likely the likely source of alot of space taken up on a disc when the game has alot of cutscenes. Which MGS is known for.

The next thing, and probably the last is the textures. Textures are, incase you didnt know, is everything you look at when you're in a game. Without textures in a game - everything would be either in completely white, wire frames, or just sticks/balls. Textures are the largest thing when it comes to recent games PS2 and above. This is because there usually is SO many textures. More then 1 texture applies to every object in the game, especially entities like characters. But these are also the most compressed of them all. Devs compressed textures as much as possible which then reduce quality greatly. MGS4 will still have compressed textures, as does every other game in the universe. Games would be around 100GB+ right now if they weren't compressed. Knowtice how we're slowly getting there.

If you look at the entire picture and want to know what is the biggest thing(s) in a game when it comes to the size of it. I would have to say either sound or textures depending on how well the game looks graphically. If it looks amazing, then I'd say textures. If it's not so good, then I'd say sound. If it looks amazing but is long - I'd say sound because textures get reused alot. Whenever I character says a sentence (or phrase) - that is most likely a single sound file of its own. So when it comes down the MGS4 - you can't say its the cutscenes or the fact that the devs are not "trying". It's the sound and the textures both. Im expecting, from everything Ive heard and collected so far, at LEAST 100+ hours of gameplay and/or replay. There will most likely be tons of cutscenes but when you look at the cutscene concept - it all points toward sound. And if the game doesn't reuse similar textures in different areas or levels - then its the textures.

I hope you are more informed with all being said and done. If you have any more questions or comments about this - then go ahead and fire away.

There are several members that go into chat, and do only that - chat. If we remove that asset, they will most likely either leave OCN or post at a slower rate then what they are now.

OCN chat is a very fun asset to OCN. There are several people (need I name them?) that like to ruin it by talking about stupid crap half the time. When a mod is in there, they either dont chat or watch themselves but the second that mod leaves - it goes to hell.

Then there are people (need I name them?) go and report every single thing to mods. Really stupid things may I add. I infact, have been inspired by one who ended up getting me an infraction for calling him by the wrong name to go and be like him, and report every little thing I see. I will continue to do this btw.

It's been bought to the mods attentions (everything that is), and they are considering just removing chat. But the simple solution is to get a mod. The perfect mod for chat, and I dont see why admin hasnt given it to him already, is Murlocke. He's in there 24/7 and is the most responsible person Ive met on OCN.

So, as I posted before about one of the many immature fools that I have a "beef" with as some may say.....

Today he pushed the line. As soon as I walked into class I walked past him and I had this..... feeling. Like I knew something was going to happen. So it did. He took his desk and rammed into my legs. I almost fell but as I came back upwards I punched his fugly face head on.

I move toward him and did it again but then backed off because several desks were in my way. That shut him up for the entire day. I hope it stays that way.

Either I hit him or I was taking the desk and flinging it out the door behind me. But that would've been a signed that I was annoiyed and he would've continued the rest of the day.

Nothing was said, no teachers or deans confronted me.... YET

I hope he learned his lesson. If he wants to bring it on again, lets do it. Because it felt so frikken good the second he hit me with the desk. I felt enpowered and full of life as I bought my fist to his face. It was weird, but Ive felt it before on several rare occasions.

I hate people who think they are better then someone else because of their looks or stupid things like that.

It annoys the hell out of me how other people can think. Its so immature. For once people need to grow a pair and think before they act. Foolishness is extremely common more then ever it seems. It annoys the living hell of out me.

For instance, one guy who is Leboniese so he isn't white but he's not black. Everyday, he not only annoys the living hell out of me but he fights with another kid who I refer to as the "G-Gnome". He is so short, its hilarious. But, the he has a heart of GOLD.

So the Leboniese kid constanstly picks on G-Gnome and fights with him all day in every class. Which I sit next to in almost every class. The Leboniese kid is so immature. He isn't the only one though. There are several others.

Now, obviously, the best thing to do is just ignore. Its stupid and immature in return to retaliate. But what in the world do you do if you have to put up with it for another 4 years almost 3/4 of each year and day basically time wise.

I can sit there and have this kid slapping me or wise cracking all day. I have never really put up with it before, I dont really know why I am right now. Last year I pummbled a tard into the cement because he wouldn't cut the crap. But that was elementary school. This is high school. I have alot on the line if I do that including my scholarship......

I'll eventually think of someway to put up with it, or just go all out on his face and teach him to grow a pair.

A friend called me up (never met him before in real life) offered me an interesting preposition. He befriended a man from Softlayer recently and with that he go an interesting preposition.

A Quad Core 2.60Ghz with 4GB RAM, 250GB Hard Drive, 2000GB Bandwidth, and Windows Server 2003.

That package at a 1/4 of their listing price of $400/month. So Ill be playing $175/month.

Right now Im paying $200/month for a Dual Core AMD Opteron @ 2.16ghz with 2GB of RAM or something like that. This is a major breakthrough for me, and my clan.

Im so happy right now - I think Ima go pop open a bottle of Welsch's sparkling grape wine. Oh yeah. XD

Really need a job...... Badly.

As a clan leader I need to pay about $200/month.
Not to mention the -expensive- hobby of computer enthusiasm.

I currently work for my family's plumbing business on weekends but thats not good enough for me. It only pays $100 a day not to mention I can only do it on a Saturday. Also, I have to work from 5AM-8PM...... No work on Sunday-Friday.

Its not cutting it for me, I need something to do on the weekdays. I dont do any sports or hang out with "friends" so I got a completely flexible schedule.

I dont know my neighborhood so mowing lawns, raking, ect. is out of the question. Things like Best Buy or Gamestop are out of the question, Im only 14. Dont know any delis close to me, nor any kind of shop or something.

Im perplexed by this situation Im stuck in. I cant offer any computer services either as again - dont know anyone.

I chose Latin (no choice) and Spanish.

So, as a scholar on a scholarship in a Catholic High School - its required for me to take 2 languages. Latin is a mandatory language for us.

I chose Latin (no choice) and Spanish.
I find Spanish to be ALOT of fun, my teacher is great. I can do entire story (5-8 paragraphs) in Spanish.

Latin is a whole different story.
In the beginning of the school year - basically you have to jump, grab onto, and hold onto the subjects which will carry you through the year as I see it. Latin - some kids caught it, some didnt. I completely missed obviously.

My teacher is an 80 year old fart who happens to be GREAT friends with my great uncle and my cousin who went through the same classes as me. Problem is - he is the slowest and most cross eyed person Ive ever seen. He's too old for this.

Basically, every day we have his class (3 times a week) - we take a test. These tests are everything we do in a single chapter. We do a chapter a day.

He teaches extremely slowly. He starts off with a prayer (being he is a brother of the le sallian catholic group), and then goes on a rant about life lessons. These lessons are actually quite good as he explains like how we as students have to prioritize ourselves and what not. As "the most important subject is YOU, yourself!" I like that..... Problem is, once he starts teaching its probably the hardest thing to do - pay attention.

Ive never had a problem like this, even if I do pay attention.... I just DONT get it. Not a single bit. I can read several books teaching Latin including Latin for Dumbies and still not understand it. Its the dumbest thing.

Most of it, hate to say it, has to fall on the teacher. Maybe I would understand it if he actually taught a little better.

Like I said before, test everyday. He knows how hard this must be as if you get below an 80 - you can retake the test after school and get a maximum of 80. Ive done this for almost every test so far. My midterm I scored a 48!!!!! He bumped me to a 65 - passing..... He is nice is a way but seriously.... needs to move on from teaching. The entire class cheats in some way. I refuse to cheat - sometimes Ill give an answer or 2 to myself by writing it down on paper before the test because sometimes there is just so much we need to take and just spit out on the paper within 10 minutes..... but not like putting the book next to my desk where he cant see it or writing the entire lesson on my arm or paper.

I understand he must be trying to give, give, give as much as he can in his life for the benefits of us - the students. Either that or the school cant find another latin teacher -.-

But, he is just too old. Ive done so great throughout school my entire life and this old bag is screwing everything I worked for up.

Well, after dusting off my PSX collection and reconverting them for my PSP....

I feel depressed. Very deeply.
Games like The Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legia, Parasite Eve II, Crash Bandicoot, and Megaman Legends...... almost brought tears to my eyes.

I was showing off to my mom how the PSP could play PSX games and she was like,"What about PS2 games? PSX games are boring right?"

I laughed but once I got back to my room, my mind lingered on that last sentence...... The PSX was a true glory back then. It had all the great games with the latest graphics. Even now, I still look at it and say "That's pretty cool."

The original soundtracks, the sound effects, the whole 9 yards..... it's stunning.

Once I began playing all these old games again, my brain began to numb a bit. It was all surreal and I kept litterly seeing my life flash before my eyes. The PSX is where I grew up, where I strived and lived on. Where I launched myself into video games. Where I spent hours on hours on hours playing games like the ones above. Even though I wasn't all too great at them as I am now, it's still amazing how great these games still are.

I think I finally understand how people like my dad have so much fun playing games like Pacman and Galaga. It's what he grew up on and had fun, but still is.

It's a wonderful thing and I believe if Sony gets in gear with the PSN store.... they can really make some money and win some hearts back. Same for Nintendo with the Wii Store.
