Transitioning from desktop to a laptop

Posted 04-01-09 at 03:16 PM by sP00N

I now use my laptop for everything. I even have it rigged up to my 22" lcd, which was easier to hook up in linux that I thought. One thing I do miss from having a desktop is all the yateloons and the ambient noise they put out (40-45dba) So I rigged one to a test psu and taped it to my desk so I could sleep better. I wake up this morning and it is super cold in my room :P So if you want to cool yourself down this up comming summer, buy a bunch of yate loons or delta fans and your room temp will prob drop 10-20 Degrees :P

LOL @ the ambient noise. I totally hear you, because in my current case, I have a thermaltake blue smartfan that puts out nearly the same dba. (my new case will have red tricools)

Perhaps you've had this happen as well? Power goes out while the computer's on, and you wake up from the lack of noise? Happened on multiple occasions for me.

I sometimes wonder if I'll ever get myself a laptop.

sP00N, do you ever notice the drop-off in power between your old desktop and the laptop? I think that would be the first thing I'd miss. (And to think I'm running an older machine -- S939.)

I can't sleep during black outs which sucks big time >.<

Also my machine is an old S939 machine like yours joe, but my laptop doesnt drop too much in performance since I'm using ext4 and there is nothing running in the background. And to think that I needed 2 gigs of memory in my desktop. :P Right now I'm using 747mb of ram and I can do some pretty crazy things in photoshop with dual monitors running.
