Robocop

Last night amidst packing up my kitchen I was able to watch Robocop for the first time.
I enjoyed Starship Troopers, and the same goes for this movie. I thought there was enough satire to make me laugh at parts, which tears it away from being called an action movie.
I was actually really impressed with the visual effects of the film, especially with the cyborg. The only disappointment was the larger, walking robot which had a very jerky, claymation feel to it.
A great movie, I highly recommend it.

I first saw Robocop when I was 11 at a sleepover party. It had a profound effect on me, and is one of my favorite action movies to date. It made me a lifelong Verhoeven fan, and if you haven't seen total recall, that's another good one. ED-209 was indeed stop motion, and some of the last of its kind ever to be used. In fact, Robocop is probably the pinnacle of the "guys in suits" and stop-motion cinema, only to be replaced a few years later by the CGI bonanza of Jurassic Park.
I just rewatched this the other day in high definition with re-mastered digital sound, and it was great feeling 11 all over again. There are rumors of a remake/reboot/resurrection, and the satire in Robocop (mostly of Reagan's "City on the Hill" brand of consumerism) still very much applies today. The sequels are bad, bad, bad... Robocop needs its own "Batman Begins" treatment desperately...Posted 05-02-08 at 06:10 PM by Abilor
