I'm sure some of you will think this is mean, others will find it funny.
Our apartment consists of four people, and we get along fine. However, one of our roomates from the start was unwilling to clean up the kitchen and apartment when we told him to. He was the only person who didn't have a meal plan (we live on campus), so made the most use (and mess) of the kitchen. For an entire semester, he would eat the food we got at the grocery store, promise to replace it, and never did.
This semester, one of my normal roomates swapped with a friend of mine and we stopped buying food at the grocery store.

To give you some more info, this semester he has taken to not coming out of his room at all (he had social issues before; "know-it-allism") and started smelling worse and worse. To make a long story short, he ruined one of my cooking pots and we resume the story about three weeks ago.

At this point I decided to pack up the kitchen stuff (all mine and my other roomate's) and put it into the storage unit we rented so there would be less to do later. This started the idea of just depriving him of everything he uses to mooch off us until the end of the semester. Since he has to meal plan he only eats Ramen. I'll go through the plan step-by-step:

Step 1: Remove all cookware except ruined pot which he paid me for.

Step 2: (for the roomate he shares the other bathroom with) Do not replace toilet paper, use public bathroom instead.

Step 3: Remove shower head nozzle so water sprays everywhere.

Step 4: Stop bringing small bags of chips from dining hall (he stole 2-3 a day, thats a few hundred calories he could use to sustain life).

Step 5: Cut off stove, microwave to prevent cooking.

Step 6: Cut off water to kitchen sink, leave only hot water in bathroom.

Step 7: Turn off ice maker, so only hot water can be consumed.

For the last few weeks he hasn't cooked a thing, so I can only assume he is getting Quizno's once a day (only once). My other roomie said he used the bathroom, but still no paper
I'm sure no ice for water or sodas is annoying.

Just figured I'd tell an interesting story about getting back at a roomate.:devil-smi If you get a moocher, take some hints from this.

Here are a few things I played around with this weekend and my thoughts on all:
1. Sins of a Solar Empire
Played for a couple of hours and thought the gameplay was a bit slow. I felt that it took too long to get stuff done, and that perhaps there could be more going on in the time period- like Starcraft or Age of Empires. The concept is cool, but it just seems like there is a lot missing from the game.

2. AudioSurf
Saw this on IGN's top rated list a while ago and decided to give it a play this weekend. It is definitely worth the $10 cost and really is quite fun. Basically what you do it select a song from your own list or from the short list provided with the game. It loads up this "highway" and you coast down it to the beat of your music and collect clusters of colored boxes. It is super addictive, plus you get to play around and see which songs challenge you more. I found some stuff by Van Halen and Joe Satriani to be difficult because there were so many boxes to hit you couldn't make matches or would lose points for hitting the wrong ones. My roomate suggested Sandstorm, which basically was automatic win. The boxes for some reason lined up in huge rows so you could stay in one position and get tons of points.
Get it on Steam.

3. Half Life 2 Cinematic Mod
Just acquired the latest release of the Cinematic Mod. I haven't played through very much of it, but basically all of the world around you is incredibly detailed. I must say I am impressed enough to play through the entire game again just because of the new details. By the way, Alex is incredibly hot for a game character.
Get it here: http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/..._Part_16;88111

4. Test Drive Unlimited Megapack
Just got the PC version megapack and picked up some of the new cars. Love the new Koeningsegg and the Lexus (I'm a Lexus person). Other than that, I wished they had put in more challenges because I have beaten all of them, and discovered all the roads, etc. The only goal left is to drive 5k miles, which is still 1k away!

That pretty much covers it, hopefully I can get some people on OCN Audiosurfing :D

I enjoyed Starship Troopers, and the same goes for this movie. I thought there was enough satire to make me laugh at parts, which tears it away from being called an action movie.
I was actually really impressed with the visual effects of the film, especially with the cyborg. The only disappointment was the larger, walking robot which had a very jerky, claymation feel to it.
A great movie, I highly recommend it. :thumb:

I recently starting using more actively the etree.com downloads section. I had always been into the musicians on that site, but hadn't given it much thought. However, I was listening to some live performances and it dawned on me what the problem with the music industry is today. The bands on that site are allowing anyone to record their shows because they know the fans appreciate it and that by allowing this more people will be interested in the music and go to shows and buy albums.
Instead of keeping music a closely guarded secret with a high price, give people a good taste of it and encourage live acts. The problem with this is that many modern bands are not able to properly put on a live show. Bands like The Who defined what makes a great live show, and the bands on etree are obviously great live otherwise nobody would take the time to record them. If your live act sounds the same as your studio act, you are doing something wrong. You need to be spontaneous and random in your live act song selection and playing. Jam, improvise, and change the songs. Play covers of other artists, play new songs, play old songs, bring up guest artists, anything. Just don't play back your album for me. Here's an example for those of you who learn by example:
Last semester I went to a Gov't Mule concert. They were on tour promoting their album, "High and Mighty". Running time: 1:10:58.208. The concert went as follows (I bought the FLAC recording later):
Warm up band- Grace Potter and the Nocturnals (also amazing, check them out) played for about an hour.
Set break.
Gov't Mule played for 1:14:03
Set break
Mule comes back out to play for 1:41:05
My friend went to some other concert of three or four bands the same night. Left after me, came back before.
Point made.

This morning I attended an information session held by our school's IT dept. I had been invited because I am a student employee and they wanted to see what we thought before they held sessions for the general student body. I was told we would be learning about the new Zimbra mail service our school is rolling over to, but instead it was about backing up data. Although I did get to learn about a cool piece of software called Comodo, that is not the point of this post.
After the meeting I talked with the I.S. guy who is in charge of handling copyright infringement notices. He was explaining to us some of the school's policies, and said that in the near future the school would be blocking P2P ports and protocols and other file sharing uploads. Downloads should not be affected, but upstream data is. What made the whole thing feel a little Comcast-y was the fact that when we asked him "what about people who use bitTorrent for legal sharing or upload stuff to web servers" the response was rather noncaring. It seems that a blanket policy was their choice. Personally, I am against this because I use bitTorrent to share music on eTree, which is totally legal and is approved by the artists. I can't buy anything on that site because it is concert audio that people have recorded of bands who have an open recording policy. Also, I have my own server and often will upload stuff to different places.
Let's put it this way, I may be forced to leave a computer at my house in Virginia and whatever music or uploads I need done I guess I will have to send there and have my trusty Fios connection finish. Verizon seems to know what users want.
Rant over, felt good to get that out. Can't wait until my packets are dropped....

I sent away my mobo which didn't fix the problem. I've reinstalled Windows and other drivers which also didn't fix the problem.
Here is my hypothesis which i am currently testing: :teaching:
I read somewhere that the error was occurring (2 years ago, but nevertheless) when people had 4 DIMM's occupied. So, I took out two of my sticks and so far no problems have occurred. If it keeps working great through the weekend, it looks solved. Now time for 2x2gb to get this thing finished....

EDIT: Hypothesis tested incorrect. Now to RMA the 8800GT and replace the memory in hopes that solves the problem. If not, you might start seeing my parts for sale as I give up.

Except for the fact that at 2:30 the person that lives above me started listening to techno for an hour, so I woke up after hearing "dum dum dum... dum dum dum" and couldn't get back to sleep for a while. While this is going on, my weird roomate decides to start cooking as well, so I have the sound of bass from above and the sound of something frying coming through my door.
How frustrating.:sozo:

So last Friday I went with a friend to the Gov't Mule concert at The Tabernacle. The opening act was Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. They were way better than I expected, and Grace was smokin' hot! Obviously Gov't Mule was awesome, they played for about 3.5 hours. Warren Haynes was astounding of course- he really is the best guitarist actively playing right now. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals played for almost an hour and a half, so I got a good amount of entertainment in.
All I can say is, for those of you who don't know the Mule, get some. This spring hopefully I can get to see then a few more times. (Atlanta, Raleigh, Richmond, Wash. DC, Norfolk are all viable concert locations I can go to).
MUUUULLLLEEE!!

Then after 5pm I get to have dinner, and then pregame a Gov't Mule concert which I am going to with a friend. Apparently our tickets let us go down front on the general standing room right by the stage, so that will be amazing. Then Saturday we have our Homecoming football game against Army.
But, back on track, I do have an ECE 2030 test on Wed. (Basic circuits and logic course).

However, it was so ridiculous it was funny for us to watch. Basically there is a duck planet like Earth and Howard is warped to Earth and tries to get back, but some evil overlord tries to take over the earth.
I recommend watching, it will have you in stitches.
This is also where my avatar (crazy guy) came from. I just screenshotted the movie because I thought he was so funny.

And yes, we were playing awfully. But come on, we have two wins and now this! This better be the last of the losses because we cannot have another set of great players spoiled by an overall lack of play. Calvin Johnson was ruined by Reggie Ball. Taylor Bennett and Tashard Choice (Heisman??) cannot be brought down by a slacking defense. Next week if we don't beat UVA we may as well hang up our coats and say goodbye to the season. We are that good, we just need to get ourselves together.
/rant about football
Same thing applies if the Redskins lose tomorrow.

Anyhow, today I found out with all the students (including me) moving into the new apartments on the edge of campus that meal plan sales went way down. So, the dining halls can't have any special events because there is no money. It was just so depressing listening to the managers of the dining halls explain what is going on and how they are having a Texas styled event next week and couldn't afford decorations.
Usually I don't feel sorry for people, but right now sophomores can go to h3ll. If only one-third of you want to buy meal plans, fine. I hope you burn your home-cooked dinner.
