I just read a review putting the ATI 2900XT up against it's Nvidia rival the 8800 Ultra.

Not surprisingly to me, the 8800 Ultra whooped the 2900XT's butt, but what was a shock was the margin by which the 8800 Ultra lost.

Take this into account:

3DMark06 Scores @ stock settings (1280x1024) and no OCing:

8800 Ultra: 11944
2900XT: 10801
8800 GTX: 10609
8800 GTS: 9528

[My source was the article I linked above]

This shocked me, becuase of this:

Prices:

8800 Ultra: $599.99
2900XT: $389.99
8800GTX: $499.99
8800GTS: $359.99

(sources for those prices are Newegg.com, cheapest prices for each model of card)

Weird huh? Performance-wise you get more bang for the buck from ATI than Nvidia. I really need to start reading more reviews, I just invested $300 in an 8800GTS, but for $80 more I could have gotten the performance of an 8800GTX without spending $500-600 for one card.

Two things I found are very interesting:
1. They do have a bandwidth cap if you are using "excessive amounts" of bandwidth. That's understandable, but a real number would be a good guideline.

#2. If I were to sue Charter or anyone related to the company for anything having to do with the Customer Service Agreement, UAP, or Privacy Policy, I HAVE TO PAY THEIR LEGAL EXPENSES. . . . and I'm not kidding, read that crap.

Customer Agreement

Quote:

 7. Indemnification
Customer agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Charter, its parents, subsidiaries, members, affiliates, officers and employees from any claims brought against Charter related to Customer’s use of the Service or the violation of the Acceptable Use Policy or the Privacy Policy, including, but not limited to, claims that Customer’s use of the Service infringed on the patent, copyright, trademark or other intellectual property right of any third party, claims arising from any breach or alleged breach by Customer of this Agreement or the AUP, or any claim resulting from Customer’s negligence. Customer agrees to pay any attorneys’ fees incurred by Charter in bringing any action related to the Service or a breach of the terms of this Agreement.

On a side note. How do I add categories to my blog?!!!

I just ordered my XFX 8800GTS 320MB, Evga 680i SLI (A1), and broke my bank for this month.

Hopefully both parts arrive safely and in good condition, I'm not ready to mess around with RMA processes, but at least I've heard Evga has a great RMA department.

Anyways, keep a look out for good benchmarks from me in the near future. This new Evga board has some better NB & SB cooling than my stock cooling on the DS3, so maybe I can get to 3.8ghz (finally).

Also, keep a look out for my new "For Sale" thread. I'm kind of broke after this buy and I'll be selling my 7900GT and Gigabyte DS3 (rev 1) for reasonable prices very soon after I get my new hardware setup :D

Even worse, I figured (having made a deep-groved outline of the cut) I could just use snips to get the piece out before moving on to fixing my Dremel. . . . bad idea. I'll leave it at that.

What I should receive this week:

OCZ 2GB DDR2-800
3x 36'' SATAII cables

Not much, but I've been really broke lately and trying to save money for a move. Hopefully that is all I will need to get my system back together and running. The other mods I have planed shouldn't require me to take everything out of the case, so I should be good.

I've also attached a picture of how the watercooling should be situated inside the case. I'll be using a reservoir in conjunction with a t-line.
