There's something to be said about rooting for the underdog. In some ways, I suppose it's a bit like the rush a gambler feels (not that I'd really know): Knowing that the odds of a favorable outcome are against you naturally exaggerates the tension before any kind of resolution occurs.

Of course, a distinction must be made between rooting for an underdog and hoping against the inevitable. There is a fine line between optimism and baseless hope.

Musings on Music (Part Four): The Soundtrack to "August Rush"

Posted 04-26-08 at 02:26 PM by txtmstrjoe (Joe-Pinions (txtmstrjoe's OCN Blog))

I don't quite remember when it was during the autumn of 2007 when I had the day off, but I distinctly remember that I had intended to spend a couple of hours watching "I am Legend" that day.

I went to the theater, paid for my matinee ticket, bought some nachos and a big, tall cup of root beer, and went inside the screening room. I munched on my nachos and sipped from my soda, waiting patiently for "I am Legend" to start as the myriad previews and cinema trivia...

txtmstrjoe is VERY HAPPY

Posted 04-15-08 at 10:32 PM by txtmstrjoe (Joe-Pinions (txtmstrjoe's OCN Blog))

Why?

Because of this.

I've been part of many groups online, but this is probably the most enjoyable. Lots of weird, wonderful, helpful, and entertaining people have come and enlisted.

I'd dare say it's the best OCN Club around.

Posted 04-11-08 at 03:58 PM by txtmstrjoe (Joe-Pinions (txtmstrjoe's OCN Blog))

I didn't mention this here before, but a couple of weeks ago I purchased a SanDisk Sansa e280 from NewEgg. I'd long been pining for a "disk-less" mP3 player for my car (which actually only has a cassette player, if you can believe that), so I'd researched various solutions over the last couple of months.

I considered following the crowd of sheep and willingly get slaughtered by Apple's marketing prowess by getting an iPod, but I like exploring alternative solutions. ...

Musings on Music (Part Three): John Williams

Posted 04-05-08 at 05:24 AM by txtmstrjoe (Joe-Pinions (txtmstrjoe's OCN Blog))

The universe of film score composers boasts a galaxy of great stars: Henry Mancini, Miklos Rozsa, Elmer Bernstein, and Jerry Goldsmith are but a few who come to mind most readily. For me, though, the greatest composer of film music of all is John Towner Williams.

I have absolutely no doubt that, even if you don’t know who John Williams is, you would know his music. Who in the modern world has not heard the epic scores from the “Star Wars” saga? Who amongst us hasn’t felt heroic...
