The Revolutionary Evolution

Do you remember a time when you didn't even use a computer? Or a time when you, or your family, didn't even own one?

The question sounds a little disturbing, doesn't it?

In point of fact, I still do remember when my family didn't own a computer, or even when none of us even knew how to use one.

Today, we have one one laptop (my sister's Fujitsu), one ancient 486 machine my sister hangs on to for sentimental purposes, one Compaq with a Socket A Sempron,...

Overclocking is the purest form of "It is what it is"

I've not been an overclocker for very long. As I recall, I attempted my first overclock in very late 2006, or maybe even just at the start of 2007. In fact, I didn't even build my first custom PC until May of 2006. Perhaps some may then revoke whatever credentials I can lay claim to.

"What do you know?"

"You haven't been at this game for long enough."

"You haven't earned your dues, son."

I suppose these...

The Question of Stability

Overclocking is not all about speed, in my opinion. Yes, one object of the game is to coax as much speed from your components as possible. I'm pretty sure that all overclockers will agree that more speed is always a good thing.

To me, though, speed isn't the end-all, be-all. As performance addicts (to some extent, all overclockers are addicted to speed and performance), it's sometimes difficult to acknowledge that there is a finite amount of performance we can extract from the...

"Future-proofing" is one of the most misleading ideas spread about in the PC enthusiast community, in my opinion. The sole beneficiaries of the quest to stay on the so-called "bleeding edge" are 1) the hardware manufacturers, and 2) users who seem to have egos that need constant massaging.

In truth, there's really no need to get the latest and the greatest hardware; in fact, I think it's downright silly (I wanted to say "stupid," but that might offend)...

This happens only once in a lifetime.

A "first," by definition, can only happen that one time. And so it is with these words.

This is the first of what I hope will be a semi-regular posting to "Technical Joe-Pinions," my personal web-log hosted on OCN.

In a way this is an experiment of sorts. I've got another blog somewhere else -- albeit one I've neglected for a couple of months now --; however, this is my first blog that's dedicated...
