Team McLaren started the 1997 Formula One World Championship season without their familiar red-and-white Marlboro cigarette livery during pre-season testing. Instead, they ran in "McLaren Orange," a nod to their original color scheme back when New Zealander Bruce McLaren fielded the team's first M2B in the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix.

Some thought, despite new title sponsorship from the West cigarette brand, that the team would run the entire year with the eye-catching orange...

Here is a collection of personal truisms about overclocking/overclockers:

  • "Will this work" or "What's the max speed I can get" questions come most often from people unwilling to try anything at all.

  • Everyone can have and voice an opinion on anything, but not nearly everyone should because of the lack of actual experience and understanding about the subject.

  • Testing is knowing; not testing is wishful thinking.

Overclocking is one of those so-called "good things in life." In other words, it's something to be enjoyed, but not obsessed over or given disproportionate attention to. I suppose it's a bit like the icing on a cake.

Strangely, though, here I am, working an hour of make-up time, and my mind wanders to some OCing. Specifically, I find myself thinking about how sometimes some people might have an unfocused approach to the dark art.

OCN is a great place for PC enthusiasts to gather round, gab about tech, and develop friendships and share information. However, I must confess a little irritation I feel occasionally with certain trends and tendencies that I see on the forums.

For one thing, there is an apparent assumption that certain parts families will hit certain target speeds. I'll cite an example I'm very familiar with: If we say "dual-core Opterons have been known to hit around 2.7GHz, but more is...

A brief history of Team McLaren (1990-1996) (Second in a short series)

When Alain Prost announced that he was leaving McLaren at the end of the 1989 F1 season, it effectively marked the end of the team's most successful period in its history. By the end of 1989, Prost had won three of his four Drivers' World Championships driving the red-and-white McLaren, picking up thirty five Grand Prix victories along the way. When he and Senna were teammates from 1988 - 1989, they won twenty five races (with Senna winning fourteen to Prost's eleven) out of thirty two. Only...
