Programming Books..need help.

Hey im looking into computer programming for a future career, and im trying to find a book that can help me learn a language such as vB, or another beginning language. I'm in highschool, and am trying to learn as much as possible before college.I have no experience with programming, so could anyone recommend some books to help me, or give me a link of where to buy one?

Depending on your interests, I'd go towards web programming as there's an increase in demand for them and the industry is starting to fill with other jobs, such as Network Specialist and programmers, and with web programming, there are endless possibilities of what you can do. PHP and Java will never die so you won't be "old school" like me for instance, I know VB6 but it's outdated and useless. VB.Net is the new standard or C++.
(This is based on my knowledge of the Canadian Job Market and http://www.jobfutures.ca/noc/browse-...alphabet.shtml) Sorry for the OT'ness. The best book i've ever used for PHP/MySQL/VB6/BASIC/TIBASIC/HTML/CSS is the book of Life: Trial and Error. ^ lol really though, find something that interests you like a program you'd like to make and attempt to make it, you'll run into some problems but just google it or ask on OCN and you'll learn quicker/better then any book out there. Thanks a lot man, ill look into the Network Specialist and the others. Java sounds good, but im not sure how difficult it is...thanks again
