Unfortunately for you and Dar_T, Nafljhy and Timlander are in a league of their own. I was split for days between Timlander's Project Quad Cube and Naf's BrassIe. Timlander, you have displayed some excellent woodworking skills and the varnished cherry veneers look absolutely stunning. The linear slide rails are a nice touch, too. Naf, those tinted acrylic windows... that white powdercoating... all that brass! Everything is so shiny and clean. I can't wait until you install the water loop!

In the end I voted for Naf's BrassIe. I felt that his work was cleaner and more professional- IMHO Naf displayed the greatest attention to detail. For some reason Tim's case did not have the same professional look- I think it was because his theme was less unified. Naf's case is simple and clean- glossy white with brass trim, and a touch of orange that goes nicely with that brass. While tim's varnished cherry finish looked extremely professional, I really did not like the mix of cherry, red paint, blue paint, and steel.
Well honestly I did not have another few hundred to blow just getting some nice paint and all the metal painted. Already spent a lot of money on the materials. I did all the work myself, and did not have to send it off to have someone mess with it, I feel very proud of that.

i don't think jpz meant it in that way tim. i also thought the two tone was a bit out of place.. i think you could've went with all one color instead.. that way it gives it a look of unity. i think thats what jpz meant.

and you're right! we are tied again! this is such a rush!

Yeah, it's lacking unity... it just doesn't look right to me. If I didn't know better, I'd say 3 or 4 different people designed and built various sections- the varnished cherry shell by one person, the blue painted interior structure, and the salvaged metal drive cards.

@ Tim: I understand what you mean about costs, and you should indeed be proud that you did all the work. If it was my project and I ran into funding issues, I think I would have done one of the two following things:

1. Scrap the windows. Not as cool without the windows, but the varnished cherry shell would look awesome. Use the money saved to make the inside look nicer/match the outside- better to have no windows at all than windows giving view to an unfinished interior. I would have bought a couple cans of paint/primer for the metal and wood interior. Also, I would have considered using some cherry veneers on the interior if that is possible and within budget instead of painting the wood.

2. Use smoked/tinted gray material for your windows instead of clear, and keep the light levels inside the case at a minimum. Just enough light so you can see inside the case if you want to, and not enough to make the interior of the case clearly visible

You're ahead by two votes! That could change at any moment, though!

I must have mulled over these mods for hours before deciding who to vote for. At first, when i looked at them when they were made available, the choice was obvious to me. After some careful reading of the logs and seeing just how much went into them, it became even more evident to me. Looking back on it, I wouldn't change my vote. I wish I could have voted for everyone who entered because when you think about it, they are all winners. Alas, there can only be one though........
