Default Pete's Monstrous Mozart

Well I decided to enter the case mod comp. I'm banking on most people not finishing, lol, as I'm not really that good at modding stuff. I plan on having dual water cooling loops in the system, one 1/2" for the CPU and chipset, and one 3/8" for the gpu's. I'm hoping to have some unique touches on this system but I may have waited to long to enter. I've got a month and a half, so hear we go

First off here's the case beside my old one, and then stripped down to it's nakedness.

I decided to put a little Overclock.net on my rig so hear goes!

I was toying with a semi gloss black on the inside of the case,

But I think I'll stick with flat black

Default Day 2

Well work continued today, mainly trying to get the paint work done before the weather goes bad again. I was planing on using a midnight blue on the front of the case on the aluminum, but I decided to go with translucent blue I think it looks way better then the midnight blue would have.

I also got the second coat of flat black on the case and doors today

I also started some cable sleeving, but pic's will have to wait until later. I've also started work on the fan controller system. All in all, everything seems to be going ok, so far anyway, lol.

Well my weekend is here and I got some more work done! Let's start with the cable sleeving I started last week.

Now lets move on to the first fan controller. I'm modding my Aerogate and my two Vantec controllers for this case. This part was done in about 3 hours.

The start of the 3 1/2 inch bay fan controller

That's it for tonight. I should finish the 3 1/2 inch bay and have the 5 1/4 inch bay started by the end of tomorrow.

Later

Well I got a bit more done yesterday, not as much as I had hoped for though. This isn't the best time of year to have started I guess, lol. Any how here's the floppy fan controller finished, the last coat of flat black and the start of the DVD-Rom cover.

I discovered last night that I will not be able to use the 120mm rad mounts in the second pic as the are to big to mount beside each other on the back of the case. Oh well, I'll figure something out. Later.

O.k. here we go! I've managed to get a little bit more done over the last few days. I think it will be time to start the tear down of my old case in the morning. I've been putting it off for the last few days, but now the new case is ready to take all the goodies from it. It's kinda sad to see my faithful Armor striped down to sit in the corner, but oh well Time for bigger and better things!

Here's the DVD-Rom cover after adding the mount and the foam. I'm hoping the plastic part doesn't show in the end. Also here's the 5 1/4 inch fan controller, I didn't bother with all the before pic's as they are the same as above.

I decided to run a single watercooling loop in the rig after I discovered that the 4 rads would not fit in the back of the case. I picked up a 240x120mm Black Ice Extreme 2 from work to mount in the back and was going to run it with the 2 120x120 BIX2 rads I have in the Throne for my Armor. I also have a spare DD5 in my parts bin so flow will not be impacted.

I also decide to get a new Res while I was at it

Here's the rear fans wired to the Aerogate,

And the front with the Aerogate installed,

I ended up going with another 240x120mm rad for the front of my case I didn't want to stop building to tear down the Throne so I just bought it.

And here is it wired,

And the front,

Here's the lone 80mm fan in my case,

I made use of the PSU to help hide the wire,

Here's a few pic's of the front,

Here's the blue screws on he back of the case,

And the last are of the 5 rear fan's with almost no wires showing,

And last but not least, the front is back on the case, almost I can't get it to pop back on just right, but it will come

Well that's about it for this post. Later all!

Hello again everyone, man it's been awhile since my last post but work has been progressing. I managed to get the front back on properly, everything wired in, and the w/c'ing loop setup.

Here's with the hard drive bays, and the 3.5 inch fan controller in,

Here's a shot of the DVD R/W drive with the front attached, the flash shows the plastic part in the middle.

Here is a close up of all the wiring for the rig, no to shabby considering there is a lot of stuff in there.

Here's the hard drives all wired up

I made a plate to cover the wiring from the PSU, it will end up being gloss black though, not blue

The start of the w/c'ing loop, I'll be using 2 DD5's in this loop with 2x240mm rads, DD TDX, Maze Chipset, and the SLI Kooash GPU coolers. The loop runs like so, Res, Pump1, Rad1, CPU, Chipset, Pump2, Rad2, GPU1, GPU2, Res.

Unfortunately there are a few pic's missing as the G/F had the camera for parts of the day

I missed the last shot's of the plumbing, but that's just connecting the rad in the front of the case to the inlet on the bottom GPU, then from the top GPU to the res. Here is the system leak testing.

You can really see the marks I made in the paint in the last one. The stuff never really hardened like it did on my Armor.

Last pic for the day is the new and improved piece of Overclock.net

That's it for this morning, but I have the whole day in front of me know so I should be able to get it close to done! Later everyone.

Well right after the last post everything went wrong When I got the rig fired up the video cards were running at like 100c so I pulled then out to reset the blocks. Long story short I killed one My Expert also decided to give up the ghost shortly after Good news is I replaced the defective parts with an Asus A8N-SLI Premium and a Evga 8800GTX I ended up having to pull most of the watercooling out to use the new hardware. That kinda sucks as the elaborate loop was kinda part of the mod. Anyway, enough talk let's get to the pic's!

We'll start off with a few pic's of the ram cooler as well as the lower rear exhaust fan's, the first pic is kinda fuzzy

Here's my custom OCN case badge I hope it's not against the TOS,

Here's the wire cover painted black,

This was what I was aiming for,

This is what stopped me from my first goal,

Here she is after the tron out dead mobo

New mobo in, it doesn't O/C as well but had the same raid controllers as the Expert

Everything installed

Right side after the new setup went in

Left side

Best pic so far

Now that we have even more time I have a few things left to add. Maybe even a waterblock for the 8800! See you at the next post

Well I got the block for my 8800GTX Everything seems to have gone in ok this time, but only time will tell. Here's a few pic's of the block.

Here's what I did to compensate for the extra heat the 8800 will dump in the loop. I'm now using the 2x120 mm rads out of the Throne for my Armor. There is just enough space to allow the GPU to fit.

I can't get over the size of these 8800's.

Here's the block installed

I finally decided on the right spot for my OCN appliqué!

And last for the night, here is the newest w/c'ing loop leak testing.

Well that's it for now. See you all in the next post

Hey there all, time for the last post. I hope your all in for a long one, lol. When we left the last post I had a feeling that things weren't going to go well, and I was right. After a day of leak testing I fired it up and played some Supreme Commander. After about an hour and a half the screen went scrambled. I shut if off and looked inside, turns out the res had overflowed. I guess I didn't have the screw cap tight enough and after the water warmed up it expanded a bit. I guess that's what I get for filling it to the top. Lucky for me nothing was damaged.

Here's a few shots of it running,

After the issues with the leak I got a little paranoid with both a rad and my res sitting over my new 8800 so I decided to make a shield. Here's the first shot.

Here' what it ended up as,

So everything seems to be running good now and it's time for final pic's! Please keep in mind that my camera is not the greatest. The color of the inside and outside is closest to the dark pic's. Also I must ask that you don't hold the defects in the flat black against me to much It was fairly chilly out when I was doing the paint and it didn't really seem to cure like it did when I did my Armor.

I have been mulling over one more idea and I may have enough time to implement it, but only time will tell.

I'd like to take a second and wish good luck to the rest of the entrants. May the best modders win and inspire the rest of us!

P.S. I will be adding a zip file of all the pic's, and many that didn't make it in to the log, in to the first post as I expect to exceed my bandwidth limit with the photo hosting site as I have so many pic's Beware there are 228 of them, lol.
