Default [Project]: Goby's TT Armor Jr. Build

So here is another Armor build but this time its the Armor Jr. My mother commissioned me to build my father a computer for Christmas. He was having problems and errors all the time with his old computer.

I didnt really have any idea how old is computer was until I asked him about it.

Specs:
Dell Optiplex
CPU: 733 MHz
RAM: 256 Mb
onboard graphics

....it pains me to go on....

so anyway, my dad was complaining EVERY day about new bugs and errors. and my mom was sick of hearing about it, so she asked me to build him a new computer for Christmas. I couldnt wait to get started.

so here are the specs of the new rig! (ps. I had a budget, so no C2D!! sorry guys.)

CASE: Thermaltake Armor Jr.
CPU: Pentium D 915 2.8ghz proc
CPU Cooler: Rosewill Z3
RAM: 2 x 512 (1 gig total) Patriot 4200 CL4
Video Card: XFX GeForce 6200
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-945P-S3
PSU: Ultra XConnect2
DVDROM: Samsung Writemaster DVDRW
HDD: Western Digital 160 gig

So here is the old bad mamma jamma!!

its old and slow...and needs to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now onto the NEW!!!!!

Armor Jr. in the box

now you all should know by know I love my camera and I love to take pics...so here is a bunch of the armor!

Now something different then the Full towr Armor is in the Jr., the front opens for access to the drive slots.

So now that we have gone through a thorough inspection of the case, lets take alook at all the rest of the parts!!!

Everything was orderd from:

www.atxcases.com
www.newegg.com
www.xoxide.com

and as I previously mentioned the budget...this machine was built for $770 including shipping.

so here is the PSU...its the same one as in my Armor LCS.

Installed

Next I installed the DVDrom. I had to attach the quick release tabs

front of the case with the door open

Then was the mobo. Its a pretty nice mobo for the buck, very upgradeable!!! can handle the C2D if I want to upgrade someday. also can handle up to 8gig of ram...I think. Its one step under the 965...but again this is for my dad who really doesnt do much other then use word, excel, and the internet....so he doesnt need a big fast monster machine.

mobo

HDD.....

ok, so now that everything is installed, I wanted to clean up the wires and sleeve them as well. This build is a piece of cake compared to my big Armor. there is hardly any wires here to hide...its awesome!!!

First I had to pass the ATX power cord through to the backside of the case, which ment that I had to take off the male adaptor to fit through the thin slot in the mobo wal.

Now I had to make all the wires from the front panel custom lengths. I had to remove about 6" from them

Sleeved

I didnt want to bore you with lots of sleeving pics so here is just one.

and Finally the completed rig

I used an El Sata cable....I have a bunch for my big Armor as well.

CPU Cooler

PSU

Hope you guys enjoy. Oh ya, I mounted teh HDD backwards so the wires are hidden, otherwise teh sata cable would be pressed up against the door...bad design on Thermaltakes part. This was a fun rig to build because it was fairly easy and not much too it.

If you all have any questions I will be happy to answer!

Thanks for looking!!!

no my dad doesnt play any games at all, I mentioned above that all he uses is Word, Excel, and the internet....thats about it. The mobo doesnt have any video out, so I had to get a card. its not the cheapest, but close. It will get the job done.......so for him, this rig is a ferrari!

I love the fact that you take so many pictures... it's so helpful as the rest of us go through our work too! -- And, I'm jealous of your dad, too. :P
