Default Old Gateway Case Resurection *Lots of Pics*

OK, first the disclaimers. This is my very first attempt at doing anything like this. Also, I pretty much took all my ideas from other people on this site... so if you're looking for originality, don't read much further.

OK, so my brother had given me an old Gateway a long time ago because he knows I like to play with components. I stripped it for what I could, but the case was so hideous I never used it for much. However, it's a nice size and has a lot of room and it's a screwless case, which is pretty cool. Sooo, I figured I'd give a try at cleaning it up. Here are some before pics.

And here's everything ripped apart

The back I/O hole wasn't big enough to fit a panel, so It needed to be enlarged. Let the dremeling begin!

It fits! Although this would later prove a futile effort.

First coat of paint. I swear it gets better.

The Gateway Logo had to go. Nothing the dremel grinder can't solve.

The front panel normally had a plastic piece covering here which I removed and then cut out the cross so I could Mount a 120mm fan on the front. It seemed easier than cutting up the inside and it was something different.

More paint coats in my ghetto outdoor studio (it was getting cold again!)

Everything Painted

Drilling Holes in the Plexiglas. The side looks like a shoe from the old Zelda.

Case pretty much done and put together.

All put together. The first pic really shows off the smudges from my greasy fingers (Damn paint was hard to get off) and the fact that matte black shows them off easily in light. It looks much better irl.

Turned on to test.

Closer. If you're wondering what's odd about the pictuer, there's two things... one, it's missing a gfx card. I use this as a server and I don't have a spare PCI-e, so I do everything via remote desktop. #2 is that there's an ASUS heatsink on a DFI Lanparty northbridge. I stole the original for a more important system.

Closest.

Nice red....looks familier

Isnt it a tid bit cold to be painting?

Edit: your side panel looks awful familier too!

Edit2: Nice work so far.

Can I offer some suggestions?

The side panel - Hit the edges with a metal file and then sand them, this will make the edges very smooth.
The top 120mm fan port thingie - hit the 4 posts that you cut off with a metal file too. that will get rid of them and should look very nice.
Flip top thing - the thing you sanded the gateway logo off of, sand the entire thing otherwise it will leave a spot that doesnt match once it is painted.

It may have been your color scheme I copied... dunno.. but see disclaimer
The side panel... I swear I just started drawing angles... you can see the ones I didn't use. I just wanted to hide the CD part of the chassis because I think it's ugly and I couldn't remove it to paint it cooler.

It was really warm yesterday... like 45 or so, so it worked out ok.

Warm compared to how it's been. Up til yesterday 33 was the high.

btw, I really appreciate the offer of suggestions, but I'm done. It was a 1 day project that I kind of burned through. However, if you have any suggestions after you see the whole thing, please offer. As I said, imagination isn't my strong suit.
