Scarring Your Psyche

Last night I went Mod Scientist and built me a mini tech station to test some LC gear and a new mobo.
But before you read my rambling work log check out Spooked Junglist's UV Materials Thread I get a lot of inspiration form glowing stuff--and that is the definitive thread RE Glowing Stuff ![]() The foundation is a very nice sturdy aluminum motherboard tray from Lian Li available at Performance-PCs.com. It has heavy riveted backplane with chrome plated expansion plates and thumbscrews to make putting in cards easier. A winky little 80mm is postioned over the I/O plate and may actually provide some airflow to the chipset...and is handy to plug into the CPU fan header when running Liquid Cooling. As I wanted to make this a somewhat self contained item I mounted a Thermochill PA160 Radiator/72cfm Silenx fan to the tray beside the mobo and a D-Tek DB-1 pump beside the Rad. I removed the 80mm fan and affixed a very nice little reservoir to the opening with self tapping screws. This Alphacool product is made from an inert plastic called POV that is nearly as hard as aluminum and features a "Hal" like "eye" of polished polycarbonate. With 6 G4 fittings it is an easy thing to situate the reservoir to allow for easy filling/lighting/proper flow. I added one extra line to the reservoir and fitted a Danger Den FilPort on a length of tubing to facilitate bleeding and filling the loop. I used no elbows or tees as I wanted the loop to be high performance--at the same time I made the loop fairly long to put some stress on the little DB- and see how well it performs. The final piece of the LC part of the test rig is D-Tek FuZion waterblock which should be a perfect match to the DB-1 and PA160 for the ultimate low restriction low noise LC set up. As I use these same components in my builds I want to put them to the test overclocking and benchmarking a new motherboard and CPU I just got. Here are some pictures ![]() ![]() My kids are very curious about this latest creation. ![]() Asus went jiggy and added some UV reactive plastic bits to their mobo this time... ![]() I am using a jumpered 250 watt PSU I got from Pook ages ago to run the lights and pump...'Nita is checking out that glowing tube...prolly wants to eat it.... ![]() I really want to use that reservoir in a mod--but I needed something small for the tray...it looks like "Hal" from 2001: a Space Odyssey ![]() ![]() The cooling system seems to be working well ![]() ![]() ![]() P5K/E6300/G Skill HZ DDR2 800/X1950pro/74GB Raptor/750 Quad PC Power & Cooling/Sony 18X DVD burner/10 CCL lights ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

She enjoys chewing on the tubing...
My son however was very helpful at pointing out where I should put more lights...

And the tubes are glowing like crazy!
I am putting the tray to work today as I bench the LC gear and P5K. My son and I call the new monster Barney--becasue it's huge and purple ![]() I will be improving the station a bit as I go along--I want to make a compartment under the tray to house the PSU and drives...to lessen the footprint. More soon
