Good thing you posted some pics...you know how Prosser gets when there are no pics

Looks good man--when you get around to paint may I suggest that you paint the interior.... that will ensure a no hassle superior gloss appearance on the exterior...one of the pluses about acrylic

Looking good--gotta love a scratchbuilt case.

Since you seem to be "tooling up" for this project here's an idea for cutting the lexan next time...

Use a circular saw with a trim blade (40 teeth ATB) and clamp a straightedge (plank) to the piece and tape the bottom of the saw to avoid scratches and blaze the sheets off with the skilsaw.

Later on if you find yourself making a lot of pieces you could rig together a "tablesaw" by making a wooden box and mounting the skilsaw in it upside down (you need to drill the base of the skilsaw to attach it to the top). A ziptie and a powerstrip will give you a quick on/off switch. Simply turn it on and raise the blade through the wood top and you have an instant close tolerance "throat" for the blade that will minimize tear-out and chipping.

Before I could afford a real tablesaw I made one from a Circular saw and actually still have it around in the shed...you only need to screw the "fence" to the top parallel to the blade. Obviously this lacks finesse and eventually may wear out from repeated screwing and unscrewing of the fence...but it's better than nothing.

Keep up the good work!

My goal in life is to keep prosser happy, its the only reason I post the pics

The interior is going to get painted as well as the exterior I am still debating on the colors to use. I need to play around with Duplicolor's Metalcast stuff and see just how much of a pain it is.

I love the table saw idea!

My new apartment comes with its own private garage with power!! Crazy! I am going to talk to the management and make sure I can use it as a work shop as I dont want to be "that" neighbor.

Sigged

I think I may have one of those custom table saws Its just a circular saw in a frame at waist height, I don't know many names of things I only use it for wood, because I can't afford a metal blade

Its just a load of spare aluminium angle and some wood for the top

Well worth doing :0

Did a lot of work today but seems like I actually LOST progress on the total project.

A lot (and I mean a lot) of my cuts were just a hair off but did I stop and rethink things. No I keep going on. When drilling the holes in the aluminum frame I forgot to take into account how many bolts and nuts were getting crowded into the corners. Did I stop and rethink things. No I keep going. I started to drill holes by sight because I was get flustered. Did I stop and rething things. No.

I finally did stop with an almost completed shell. It does not look bad if I can fill in the holes on the lexan but I will always notices all the little mistakes and that will drive me nuts.

Also, the 1/8" lexan is just too flimsy even with the aluminum frame.

So, it looks like its time to start over. I think I am going to use rplastics.com as they offer a cutting service for a reasonable price unless someone here wants to makes some $$ cutting the panels. All my lexan is trashed now as well as the aluminum. At least I have some piece to practice on.

ugh

No no no no!

Ach, doesn't sound good. CD's probably going to take the *insert infraction here* but any pictures of what you mean by problems?

For the acrylic being too flexible, struts will help a lot, and if its going to be painted black then you might as well use diagonal ones as they won't be seen...

When you say drilling holes by sight, how far off were you? You could always put in 3mm LEDs, or could they be covered by washers?

Where there is a will there is a way ,and you don't neccessarily have to replace all the acrylic in the case

Is lexan less rigid than acrylic?

Oh man... sorry to hear about the situation... I know how you feel.

No worries I am not giving up! The design might be different but it will still be a cube of some kind

I am thinking ideas right now of what to do. Rplastics offers cutting services for a reasonable amount, I just need to find out if I get to keep the scrap. I am also thinking of going light gray transparent acrylic and not doing a very open design like before to minimize the amount of things I can mess up This way I get closer to a self assembled case rather than total scratch build which my skills are that ready for as I found out.
