Default Design update: 08.20.07

Hello again...

Thanks for saving me Heru ... but if the truth be known, I do have a full life. Multiple jobs, another Hobby that takes up a considerable amount of time and what could be loosley termed as a "social life" leaves time as a scarce resource... but that is the way of it. I'll say this much: "I am never bored".

FAlleNAn9el, I am gratified that you liked some of my previous projects. Thank you for saying so.

As for the lack of updates, my excuse is that I am not including a fabrication log within the build log. It is essentially the same process that can be viewed in my other projects.

There have been a couple of changes, and one of the changes has been reverted back to its original design.

I have decided to use only 2 drives in this project, but I will leave enough space in the HDD chambers for additional Drives in the event that they are needed or desired.

Here is the first change that I made. A change that was promptly axed. The dimensions detracted from the visual sense that I want to portray: Large towers with a smaller span that connected them. This design has a ratio limit (tower to mobo module) that lies outside of the Golden Ratio.

It is my intention to keep the visual balance somewhere close to this tolerance and keep the Golden Rectangle. The picture below shows just how far the design strays from the intention....

note: These sketchups are not to scale, they are only a rough representation in order to give me an idea of what it should look like.

The issue revolves around cable management and the apertures that the wiring must travel through in order to connect the components. I want to be able to kill two birds with one stone: The apertures are also part of the flanges that connect the towers to the Motherboard Module. Attaining multiple goals or functions with a single element is what I generally strive for; a goal that often backfires with much gnashing of teeth and sullen sulking .

I was able to work my way around this by lowering the position of the flanges . The other element involved is the manner in which the PSU cables will egress from the PSU chamber into the mobo chamber and onwards into the towers. Again I am trying to keep the management as user-friendly as possible (enough space to work comfortably, and to have hardware changes be as headache-free as possible).

Here is final design. As you can see the HDD windows have been reduced from two on each tower, to one on each tower.

The panels should be done by this weekend, so I will post some pics of them at that time. The rest of the assembly will take 2-3 weeks as I am going to be making some of it up as I go along.... a habit that often leads to many surprises (read: headaches). I have a general sense of how all the components (particularly the dual loops) will come together. The trick will be coaxing the reality in my mind to come forth into the reality of the world...intact.

Peace

Thats the way, mm-hmm mm-hmm, I like it *wanders off singing*

Please, explain this Golden Rectangle more - I see it popping up a lot in Sketchup when I'm drawing, but never thought it meant anything...

Oh, and you owe me a PM

@Syrillian: I can't wait for the finished result!

@Prosser: The golden rectangle is a rectangle with the sides in a 11+sqrt(5))/2 (~1:1.618) ratio (the golden ratio). It just so happens that by cutting off a square with sides the length of the short side, the remaining rectangle has the same ratio for the sides. It shows up in nature a lot (especially in the nautilus shell), and as the numbers in the Fibonacci sequence (An=An-1+An-2 with A0=1 and A1=1) get bigger, the ratio between them approaches the golden ratio.

(yes, I like math...)

Me too! ....LMAO, I should have called this the "Crysis Project". Afterall, I did time my next upgrade in builds with what I hope to be a "soon-to-be released" date... ...jeez what an infant I am...

There are some embedded links in the terminology on post #41.

Sorry Bro... I do owe you one. I have been busy... truly. I hope to chat with you tomorrow, but definately before the weekend.

Math Rules!

...magical and ineffable, yet undeniably present in everything that we are and all that is.

Hmmm... maybe you can answer a question:

Why do we use an infinite number to find the area of a finite space?

Is it like Zebo's paradox, wherein he did not account for the convergance of infinite sums?

"POP!"

erm... sorry.. my head just exploded.

Thanks for stopping by guys.

I am really excited about this build as it will be my new Primary System. In truth it may not be fully completed for a couple of months. The case building part is not all that costly... at least when compared to the hardware that will be going into it. It may take me some extra work on the side to save the cashola for this project.

It will be worth it.

Cheers, Brothers and Sisters!

@Syrillian:

I'll assume that you are talking about integrals? They're very close to that particular paradox.

Essentially, one can model a curve as a long series of points, and we can model the area under that curve as a long series of parallel line segments. Of course, one can't calculate it like that.

Instead, one can model the area under the curve as a whole bunch of rectangles and sum their areas. The thinner the rectangles are, the more accurate the computation is. We're not actually computing the area of an infinite number of lines, we're computing the area of an extremely large number of extremely thin rectangles. As the width of the rectangles gets very, very close to zero (but Not quite), the number of them becomes very, very large (but NOT infinite) and the approximation becomes very, very accurate.

So...erm...basically things look better if built to fit in with the Golden Rectangle formula?
