Thank you. I should be able to finish this project by the end of November.

There are a couple of minor interior mods that have not been listed so far. It is not that I am holding out on Ya'll.... they simply haven't solidified into anything cohesive; they are still sloshing about in the gray-matter in a larval stage.

Pics will be up next week. As stated by ice_owl, capturing the essence is really difficult. This problem is compounded by the fact that the paint job is rather subtle....

...when I am done I will try to do a small video of the effect.

...heh! ... I needed to break away from the Blue/Black rut... I don't want to as they are my favorite colors, but I think that the Red will look good. I may melt down some depleted uranium rods to a liquid state and add a few drops to the loop to give it an unholy glow... lol... UV reactive additive.

How do you like the layout of that case? Is it roomy enough? Would you change anything?
Thanks for ackowledging the picture-taking headache... considering I am no Ansel Adams it proved to be rather challenging.

I really, really, really like this case. Physical balance has merit to me, and considering that one of the radiators is top-mounted, having the PSU in the bottom of the case provides a counter weight... not that it makes much difference... it wouldn't tip over or anything, I just like even distribution. In fact, I prefer to have the PSU in bottom section of any case... but that is only a personal choice.

They layout is great as it will accomodate some of my ideas on cable management. There is plenty of space for me to put both my meat-paws inside and twiddle about.

There really isn't anything that I would change, except I would like to have 120mm fans on the rear-side. But, that would mean a deeper (or wider depending upon perspective) case. I think that the twin 80's will do the job as I plan to supplement them with some more exhaust.

Anyway, - drop us some hints and teasers please! What colour are you sleeving the cables with?
I used standard Black sleeving. The reasoning is that I would like the wiring and cabling to "sink" into the background and not stand out. I would like the components and the cable-management (an interior mod) itself to stand out, or at the very least be a "subtley".

Thank you Master.

Yeah... painting is not my forte. I have read SpookedJunglists painting thread numerous time in the past 6 months as I prepared for this endeavor. I also spent a fair amount of time reading on the Web and practicing with canabalized pieces of cases to see what I would be able to achieve....

...we shall see if I was paying attention.

...Amen to that.

Yes, I have 4 of these bad mofos. Putting all 4 into Gemini was a bone-headed move on my part, so I am dividing them up. Two of them will remain in Gemini and be moved to the rebuild, and the other two are going into Liquid Chameleon.

The Dual boot fiasco that I engineered turned to ashes, so LC will be my Vista Rig until I am emotionally strong enough to cut ties with XP.

As usual, great work Syrillian.
I love that paint, absolutely awesome for cars and motorcycles. I'll have to include computer cases to that statement from now on

IF (and this is a big if) I could find a local Painter that I could trust I'd consider dismantling and all that fun stuff. The end result is really stunning...I just draw the line at stuff I can't do entirely myself.

I assume the Raptures will be visible? Looking forwardto the assembly process

The Heart of the matter:

Between waxing the outer chassis and priming and painting the inner chassis pieces, I spent some time sleeving.

The stock Power Switch and LED panel is well put together and the action of the switch is positive and decisive…. I know that an action occurred when I push it. Some momentary switches have a “mushy” feel to them which makes it feel as though contact may or may not be happening and oftentimes the reality goes hand in hand with the feeling.

...and sleeved:

The front USB / 1394 / sound panel was readily removed. Thankfully it is already painted a nice finish of Black…. I have had enough of painting for awhile…. a long while. It will be good to back to Acrylic.

Un-sleeved:

…and sleeved:

…and mounted:

I’ll be back in a bit to post what I did to overcome the issues I had with the single 120mm radiator.

Default Update: 10.28.07 (2 of 2) - Puzzlebox

Here is a shot of the painted interior chassis pieces. They will get a final polish when I have the chassis fully assembled.

During the painting process I put the down time during curing to use, and worked on the window panels. I have completed the main window panel, but I still have to work out how I will mount the HDD/PSU chamber windows. The stock covers are mesh grills that have tabs. These tabs bend and hold the mesh panel in place. I refused to drill any holes in this case right from the get-go (except the 2 for the pump), so I was hoping to be able to use the existing slots….the bolts will have to be tiny.

Anyhooo….here is the main window:

The secondary radiator posed a problem. The issue was, that of the 3 components only 1 had a “pass-through” configuration – meaning that the hardware that mounted and held the components together could only pass through the entire body of one of the components. Not a problem…. until one attempts to tighten the mounting hardware.

….I had a puzzle-box on my hands.

I worked my way forward with what I had, to what I needed to achieve. I have some 4/40 threaded rods that are 3’ long. The length was not an issue – Dremel the unwanted lengths off.

To mount the hardware 2 of the 3 components needed to have a pass-through. The radiator was out of that qualifier…. hands down. That left the Scythe Bay cooler.

The lineup:

…and the mounting hardware in an exploded view:

In order for this to work and have some longevity I needed to use some lock-tight. Here are the tools that I used to start the mounting process.

…and the modded Scythe bay cooler:

After getting all the posts in place with a nut and a drop of lock-tight, I mounted the fan over the 4 posts.

…then slid the modded Scythe bay cooler over the 4 posts as well.

I did not want to have bare nuts…. erm…. you know what I mean…

I used these “things” that I found at HSC that are plastic snap covers. They are almost perfect as they serve as the washer and the veneer for the nuts.

The DIY puzzle box:

Will the next hurdle please present itself….

The 220 radiator and fans need a mounting solution….
