Disclaimer:On hold till i get the case back from my fiancée. Loaned here my server when her Dell died. Loaned it to her 4/1/08 so i haven't been able to do any further work since then.
First off I am a college student so will only be able to work on this during thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. This will be a journey to complete to the level of professionalism that I am looking for. Anyway here are the pictures of the original Gateway server case. The dimensions are 24 in tall by 25 in deep by 8in wide. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now here is the list of my planed mods on the case. 1) Side panel mod with mesh and acrylic. 2) New front panel doors. Aluminum/steel frame (black) with mesh centers (red) 3) Diamond shaped blow hole out top mesh (red) 4) Mod 2 i-cages into the existing SCSI hot swap bays. 5) Mod exhaust fans (2X 80mm) into bottom 4 PCI slots 6) Mount 2 PSU 7) Paint inside and outside black 8) All mesh painted red Mods for Hardware 1) Sleeve PSU’s 2) Paint I-cages Black, Disconnect blue LED’s on fans This is my sketch in paint of part placement ![]() Here are my beginning SoildWorks models for the system. Very rough because I don’t have dimensions for all parts, only have outside dimensions since the case is at home and I am at school. Isometric view ![]() side view ![]() front ![]() Top ![]() Any other ideas/suggestions for mods and such pass them on and thanks for looking. Project will start in a week.

Very nice ideas so far!
I personally don't like the diamond on top since everything else is right-angled. How about 3 stripes width wise?

Thanks I was thinking the same thing about the diamond. Though, slots seemed to look weird also. I am playing around with Solidworks model to find what i like the best. I'll post an update once i find what i like next.

My latest rendition of the top of the case. i like this a lot better than the diamond or strips the other direction. I have been busy with schoolwork so haven't tied to many other designs.
![]() Come on everyone I would like to get some comments on the design of this case. Project will start in T minus 4 days. I would like all of OCN to give me some help opinions on what you would like to see. Also what color of Cold cathodes should I use? I am thinking Red or White. Thanks to all who comment

I say keep the front doors and put formed mesh on them, would probably save you a lot of time. Paint them of course. Your geometric shapes are OK but you could do better maybe octagons? Just my 2 cents.

From looking at the pictures, and if that red mesh is really going to be that red and thick, then white cathodes would really be sweet. But then they might be a little too bright so then red might help give it a better glow. I think I would go with red for that case. Can't wait to see what you do with that server case.
