Thanks warf
![]() I think what I'm going to do is use my dead DFI board as a template, mark the standoff holes, then add standoffs and put the motherboard on them. Then I'll add a bunch of PCI cards and use them to mark rear panel holes .Still waiting for my flex shaft nut to arrive.

Quick update: I just realized something after reading CattleRustler's most recent update on Greenie-poo. I took a look at the back of my case and found out something that makes me feel really stupid...
All this time, I knew that the expansion card panel on the rear was recessed a bit into the case. I just figured out that the IO panel is also recessed, meaning that they're both actually flush together! Why didn't I just put some cards on an old mock-up mobo and test this out? I have no idea... I may be able to get some work done tomorrow, but my parents are heading off for a few days so I may not... Plus I still have some homework to do...

Excuses excuses excuses! We all know teaches do not actually expect you to do the homework, so why waste your time with it?

sorry guys, still no time.
Yesterday I was setting up my dead DFI board to put in the case to mark off the rear panel cuts to be made when I realized that I needed to mount the board on the standoffs, otherwise the rear panel would be off by ~1/4". ![]() So hopefully I'll be able to pick up a tapping kit and get on with this already. I already dug through my dad's computer-part-drawer-thing and found a complete set of standoffs and screws. I'm pretty sure these have the standard threads, but I did have a bunch that had a different, smaller thread.

So...
I now have a tap and a 6-32 tapping bit, w00t! Is it ok to tap without tapping fluid? I don't know what the fluid even does.

in metal, no.
get the fluid. it keeps the bit from dulling and helps the threads cut clean. in a pinch use some wd40 or 3in1 oil, but get the right fluid asap

Lol, thanks guys.
Warf, I would update more, but I just don't have free time. I finally got the tap, but then I get a fever of 100-103 for 6 freaken days. It's not swine flu, but the doctor thinks its probably pneumonia. We don't know whether its bacterial or viral, but I'm on antibiotics now anyway. I may have a quick test bench of sorts to make out of scrap wood. It won't be pretty, but I will get to practice tapping on a soft material (I think I have some scrap acrylic though, and I'll definitely practice on that before I do it on the final product).
