I think I may try to get or find an ATX mobo template and get started practicing my tapping today.

Good news! I was able to tap perfectly in both acrylic and wood!
I also was able to get the motherboard tray/side-panel taped off on one side so that I could start laying stuff out. I just realized that my standoffs may be a bit too... small. They only have 1/8" of teeth and only 1/4" body length. Since the motherboard is mounted directly on the side panel, there won't be much cable management going on. I'm wondering if the 1/2" body standoffs will work, and if they'll let me do much CM behind the mobo. I'm also wondering if I'm find with the 1/8" thread. They may all be that long, but it doesn't seem enough to hold the motherboard to the acrylic. CR, how long are the threads on the McMC Hex Standoffs you got?

Thanks dark, comments make differences! So stick around! I'll be doing some more work this weekend (mobo mounting included, unless the standoffs become problematic ).

Well, in all fairness, I kept poking you to update, and you ignored me. So I kinda lost hope of an update.

I didn't ignore you, I just didn't have time/tools.
I got the rough draft of the mobo standoff holes marked off. I have to find ATX measurements to double check (I just traced from an ATX mobo, but the holes are possibly off by 1-2mm, because of the "wiggle room" the pen had in the screw hole, and that's enough to not work).

screw it, I'm using imageshack.
Made a newer mobo "stencil" and layed out some components. ![]() ![]() ![]() For the CD drive, I like it at the bottom. Here is one of the reasons for putting it at the bottom. I've got a plastic window (1/16ish) to put in there and it will be painted or given a brushed look. (if I get a sponsor it will be up to them, I'll start emailing manufacturers and retailers when I need hardware) ![]() I can still put it at the top. I'm not sure what I really want for the case. An old project that requires better soldering skills than I have (the remote control sort of fell apart, and I can't figure out how to reconnect the antennae) ![]() Here are the good pics from tapping. ![]() ![]() ![]() Practice makes perfect. ![]() I was also experimenting with different drill sizes. The top three holes are all using a 3/32 bit. Then, the bottom four go: o - 3/32" .o - 7/64" o - 1/8" (no pilot) .o - 1/8" w/ 1/16" pilot The 7/64" worked the best, so that's probably what I'm going to use on the case itself.

Oh my fancy goodnesss, we have an update! Yippie! For the antenna, do you need soldering, or can you just splice? For the case, have you decided what type of hardware to use? Black screws? Chrome bolts? And I have to say, that is the shiniest PSU I have ever seen.
