Around Christmas I decided I was going to mod a case for a kindred soul, my good buddy Chris. He's a tech junkie like me and I just couldn't let him have a stock case...what was that OCN saying, "Friends don't let friends run stock"? lol
![]() While he was up in Ohio for the holidays we got to talking about it but never came up with any real design ideas, so I just sort of let the mod choose it's own course for a theme. I had always wanted to use red in a mod, so that was my foundation and from there the rest just evolved. Now this case mod isn't going to be near as outlandish as Can U See ME, it will be much more practical (and exponentially less expensive lol) So, today it begins with some packages. Case is a plain jane Raidmax Astro which I've used for a couple prior builds. It's an affordable case well suited for modding. The side panel window is surprisingly decent and the dual 80mm fans slots allow for decent airflow. It also has dual 80mm slots on the rear panel and a 120mm in front of the 3.5" cage. Sharp edges abound though, so be careful. ![]() ![]() Next step for this bad boy is a complete tear down and prep for paint. The interior will be a bright red while the exterior will remain black. I knew Chris sleeps near his computer so a priority for this build was silence, but it still had to be cool because he is running an 805 and with the P5B I was going to include in the build I knew the potential would be there for some serious overclocking. The solution... Yate Loon D80SL's of course and two Yate Loon D12SL's. And more importantly, some other red goodies. ![]() Last for a today, a pic of my solution to the lack of 3 pin headers on the P5B. Certainly not a fancy fan controller, but given how quiet these fans already are I wasn't concerned. More on this later! ![]() Stay tuned! PS - anyone have a spare OCN sticker I could buy? If so, shoot me a PM!

It's been a couple days since I posted an update but I made some head way tonight, so it's time for some new pics.
First off, thanks to a fellow OCN member I have a different heatsink to use for Chris' build. I originally ordered a Scythe Katana II for the build but received a Tuniq Tower in a trade so now that will be the heatsink of choice. First, a quick comparison of the two heatsinks...slight difference lol ![]() First task was to mark and cut out the hole for the top window of the case. ![]() ![]() With that out of the way it was finally time to get down to business on the painting, and boy did I! Adding a little "flare" to the Tuniq Tower and the fan grills ![]() and the finished side panel ![]() And the front panel after a bit of a facelift ![]() And the finally the case frame, painted and fans installed ![]() Still have quite a bit of work to do, but it's coming along now and looking even better than I had anticipated. I'm still waiting on a few more last minute parts to arrive and I a bit of fab work to finish but other than that this project is all down hill from here.

Come on, more more, I used to have that case about 4 years ago, and I miss it. This is like watching the past....
