God damn 20k with an E8400 and a 3870x2. Something tells me the E8400 is my next upgrade!

Well this one is pretty nice....I am running it at stock right now. Using the stock Intel Heatsink which is very small...and not very efficient.

So are you going to have 2x 3870x2 in that rig final Or are you still working on another benching rig?

Not sure. It really depends on how well two cards work together. I am not looking for a heartache here...

I have two cards and I have two blocks being made so yes two cards is/was/will-be the plan...but the reality of that is still up in the air.

Well my main issue now is getting Stupid Windows to cooperate. I have tried and tried and cannot seem to get a handle on how to create an open network so I can easily access and transfer files from on PC to the other. Make me really love XP...

Although Files and Settings Transfer Wizard deos some of what I need all I really want is to have access to specific folders like Pictures, Music, Videos, Documents so I can use Mistress QUickly as a houselhold server.

At this I have repeatedly failed...and it is truly the CRUX of why I built the rig...sad.

I am about ready to pay someone to set this up (looks at Krunk).

HW I have no probled,...SW I have slowly gotten a handle on...Networking: HUGE mystery in Vista...despite all the usual things I try like sharing, Firewall exceptions, stuff that works in XP I get no positive result.

THe only folders I can access are th Public folders...which is not what I need as those are on the smallish Raptor not the largish Hitachi...and I am too n00bsauce to figure out how to relocate the PUblic folders off the C drive (if even possible). Like the Hydra-headed monster simply cutting and pasting the Public Folder simply creates a new set of Public Folders on C and the Folders I paste are not really publiv (inaccessable from the netwrok).

THis and setting up the Media Server (tried TVersity) is driving me mad.

sigh.

At this point I am wishing I had just installed the OS on the large drive to make this all easy. But I wanted that speed...plus I find running an OS on a seperate drive speeds up most operations that are saved onto a seperate drive...a LOT.

Have you tried going into Network>Network and Sharing Center and then using the built in setup for a network? Thats how I set mine up. Also turn on the things you want in the network sharing center. It seemed to be relatively simple for me. Good luck with your setup
