Default [Project] Mistress Quickly

I am finally doing something for the house RE building a HTPC rig. Part of this is just an excuse to buy a bunch of cool stuff...but part of it is to actually do something new.

The main function of the rig is to be the portal through which the family can access the web, stream media, play games, do their work, and back up their systems.

I also want the rig to be semiportable and simple to maintain. It will also need to be quiet and blend in to the rest of the environment.

In order to meet these goals in a timely manner I have decided upon a 4 phase approach.

Phase one is the acquisition of the requisite equipment and the testing and benchmarking and proofing of said equipment in an expediant manner. I want to play with my toys right away

Phase two is the debugging and comprehension of the SW and devices I want to imcorporate into the HTPC environment. This will be somewhat familiar territory but I want to be able to seemlessly integrate all the controls into a single interface.

Phase three is the preparation of the case to support the hardware and be pleasing to the eye. It will be an open ended process that seeks to accomplish three main goals: Immensely Powerful, Dead Silent, and Cold.

Phase 4 is the mating of all these elements into a Goddess of Serenity and Delight I call: Mistress Quickly.

Much to do.....

Major Change of Plan: Different Case

Not that his case is not nice...but I want to use a HDD fan thing and a remote control and it's just not going to work right with a case with a door...

That case will make for an interesting project...to be sure...just not this project...

Here is what I went with:

Lian Li V1200 circa Novemeber 27th 2006. NIB. Always wanted this case

Wife likes it...the girl child helped me a bit with the cabling and my son likes using it...to watch movies...

Yep another extravaganza headed your way....

Phase One:

This will get me started loading SW and benching the beasty.

************************************************** *****
Phase Two
************************************************** *****
Okay I have the gear in the Lian Li case now and am testing iot out with our ancient HD TV via HDMI and after some resoltuion issues were reolved it works great.

Turns out that the iMon remote is not something I use much except to start the PC...now the iMon display is great...as are some of the features...but I fin MediaCenter more comfortable. And use the diNovo Edge for that...

So far the list of Hardware keeps growing.

Added a USB wireless, another 750GB drive, a QX9650 and an Enzotech HSF...

Pics in a bit

YOWZA!!! most people build HTPC's to be cheap and functional... CD's HTPC will outperform most peoples gaming PCs..... talk about overkill lol.

CD that seems a "bit" over powered for a HTPC, but heck Overpowered is what us OCN'ers do best Cant wait to see the final build!
