That shouldnt cause it to go ape-crazy will it?
You should be okay. I think you will have to reinstall when you get a new processor and memory perhaps. The HAL will get very confused plus drivers cause major issues. Theoretically it is possible. (I used the same copy of vista for my AMD x2 + ASRock board for my e2180 - purely as an experiment. After about 5 BSoD's and numerous driver errors I got it to boot to the desktop. I then deleted ALL old hidden drivers. It ran pretty stable, I was surprised but boot times were atrocios. Needless to say I did a reinstall)

See this article regarding activation and hardware - http://www.technibble.com/windows-xp...ion-explained/
Even if it won't let you activate over the interwebz, you should be fine by phone. Just say the processor crapped out, but mobo is same.

Thanks for the links. Those might be very helpful! If i can grab some thermal paste today I might try to boot up on the new hardware just to see.

Exhaust fans should be here by next week. Got the MO in the mail today. That should pretty much finish the build minus redoing the interior paint. I also want to add some CCL's/uv inside, but I suppose those will be a later mod thread. Im ready to finish up this case, I have to start on the mod comp!

Just a warning repo_man:

If your Windows XP disk was a full retail version, you should have no problem. You may install it again on your new hardware. You are permitted to install XP on any computer you own provided that it is only installed on one computer at any given time.

If your Windows XP disk was an OEM version, you MAY NOT LEGALLY INSTALL IT ON THE NEW COMPUTER. According to the OEM license, you may only install the operating system on one computer. One computer is defined as one motherboard. Once you install XP on a ASUS P4SD-LA for example, it may never again be installed on anything other than that ASUS P4SD-LA. There is an exception allowed if the motherboard dies provided that the ASUS P4SD-LA is replaced with another ASUS P4SD-LA provided by the manufacturer. If you must buy another motherboard, even if it is another ASUS P4SD-LA, you may not install XP on that "computer."

Someone may wish to back me up on this, but be forewarned. If you have an OEM and you call to activate it anyway, they may do so without issue. They have no real way to track the license. Understand, that if Microsoft audits your key, you did in fact break the law (software piracy) and do not have a leg to stand on.

My Vista Ultimate disk cost me $15 from my College.

Pity my Motherboard has issues with it.

Thats a nice price...wish I could get vista for that . My university participates in MSDNAA but I was very rudely told that it did not apply to me from the ICT department . If you have to get a new o/s try and push for Vista. You should be ok though.
