Post [Project] Building aluminium case from scratch

Current Status Of Build (08-02-09):

Well i have decided to build a computer case from scratch out of aluminium. Dimentions are 210*575*590.

The original plans... Very VERY rough.

FINALLY! got all my material.

First piece cut. many more to go yet.

Got all the peices cut now. Borrowing a die-grinder off the neighbour. Will be getting it this afternoon. Use it to clean up the edges very quick.

Any suggestions? Feel free but in your two cents. More to come soon.

Cheers, Smokie.

The neighbour never brought the di-grinder home so i guess i cant do much today.

Regarding cable mannagment, there is plenty of room between the front of the MOBO and the front on the case to hold all the cables. As you can see the deviding tray has grooves cut into it to feed the ide/sata/power cables trough.

A slidding MOBO tray sounds awsome...but... how exactly do i make on? I cant imagine it being an easy task. I have the room to do it. If you can find me a good set of plans for me than i supose i could give it a go.

You can make a sliding motherboard tray by incorporating "rails".

If you are using alum for the mobo panel itself, then you could use something similar that is thicker that will accept a cleft (needs to be thick enough to cut a groove.

OR - you could make a layered rail: 2 wider pieces that sandwich a narrower piece. This would yiled the same result.

ok... not to sure on what you mean but have an idea of what you are talking about. I was planning on using a MOBO tray out of an old case and fit it to this one. What about the back I/O pannel. How do i slide that out? wont the whole back pannel have to slide out with it?
