lol, I just meant you should test it out before using it. Set it to the lowest setting you'd use (with the fan on it of course) and see how hot it gets. Because if its too hot you may want to keep it away from the CD and hard drives.

Lower setting = more resistance = more heat.

Arrgh I was planning to put it in the box I am making for the DVD-RW and the PSU.
Specifically I was supposed to put it with the DVD-RW In the Same Chamber.

Thanks Manyak for letting me know. I had not clue that these things give out soo much heat .

Yes Nate. I guess I willl put a fan in there. I have a couple of 25mm fans that dont have a home yet. I'll have to think of how to put a Fan in there

Don't pre-built controllers use PWM circuits? In this case, heat generated should be minimal.

I think they do, but that doesn't stop my rheobus from getting pretty toasty with 18W on it (out of 20W max). It actually feels about the same temperature as the PCBs of my hard drives, except of course they are actively cooled.

Time to post again. I have slowly been making progress on the mod. The new acrylic steps have been cut and polished. The acrylic for the PSU and DVD Drive has also been cut. I hit a couple of glitches on the way. I will let you guys know what they were later.

Right now I was looking at a couple of polishing products. The tutorial over at mnpctech suggests using the 3M Imperial Glaze first and then using Carnauba Liquid Wax to give it the mirror look. I found the 3M Imperial Glaze over at amazon and ordered it. but cant seem to find the Carnauba wax anywhere. The local walmart does not seem to have it.
Are there any other alternatives/better products to the Carnauba wax? I would prefer it having shipped rather than going and getting it.

I will get some pictures of the progress up over the weekend.

EDIT : Stupid post gives the impression that I need am going to polish the acrylic. I am actually lookin to polish the case that I painted to give it a mirror finish

-Thanks,
Wasted.

I believe you should be able to get a liquid carnauba wax at mostly any automotive store (AutoZone, O'Reilly's etc) in the car wash isle. It might be in you interest to send a PM to Syrillian, he is the head guy here at OCN as far as acrylic and polishing it etc.

Thanks repo.
My stupid post gives the impression that i need the polish for polishing the acrylic.

I totally forgot to mention. The polish is for the case itself that I painted.

OH! My mistake then! Yea, well you can use a regular car carnauba wax then.

Phew finally an update

I cut and sanded all the pieces required for the DVD Drive and PSU hold.

Here are some pictures of me doing a test fit.

The Fan controller is going to be put inside the chamber with the DVD Drive.
The first few sides go up

Side with the Fan goes in. Manyak said that the Sunbeam can get really hot. So I put a fan on the side to pull cool air in.

Barely enough space for the IDE cable to go through.

The back showing the fan controller.

4th Side goes in.

and Covered

Then I put the PSU in. and mounted the back panel. The back panel also has a server reset switch.

Oops. The slot needs to be slightly bigger.

The PSU pulls in air from the top. But because I am gonna cover the whole thing there is nowhere for the hot air to go out. So I put 2 25mm fans to pull hot air out.

The front. The second fan hole is slightly messed up. but nothing really bad.
The other hole is for the remote eject switch for the DVD Drive

The top cover. I still need to drill the 120mm hole.

The whole box.

The front

Thats all for now. I am going to polish the sides and glue them next. I have also completed the steps. They also need polishing and gluing.

Thanks for looking

That is looking really awesome bro! I have one concern/thought though.

I would really consider trying to fit a larger exhaust fan on the PSU box. Those 25mm's are not going to cut it,IMO. And a hot PSU is an unhappy PSU. Could you fit perhaps a 80mm in the back?
