where did you get the LEDs/how bright did they have to be to shine out of the drive?

I got the LED's from an ebay store. They ship from Hong Kong .
The ones I have are 5000mcd flat top LED's , even if you have LED's with lower mcd values you can put a couple of extra ones in there to compensate for brightness.

Another small update :

I put together the PSU and Drive hold and added the fans to the front panel.
I ordered a couple of 40mm blue LED fans to add to the front of the PSU.
I also made a small video of the remote eject switch.

Enough talking let the pictures do the job.
