Ohhh... that 1st image ...

Such a sweet sight.

Q: The holes for the 6/32 screws; the screws will thread to the acrylic?

Lookin' marvy!

Well it does not say anything specific about applications. I bet it is supposed to be used for wood only.

I cant find regular clearcoat anywhere
Home depot and Lowes carry only rustoleum. Do you know of any online retailers ?

Thanks Syr,
Yes the screws will thread into the acrylic. I am hoping that the 1/2" acrylic will be strong enough to hold the weight of the panel.

I havent bought it online but I have seen it online, just dont remember where. Your best bet is to check with any local mom and pop hardware stores in your area, they tend to stock Krylon. Just be careful and dont accidentally get the Krylon Crystal Clear satin or flat, you want the Gloss

Finally I have something to report

The sponsored package from Delvies came in
1. 1/4" Solar Gray and Transparent Red Acrylic (these go into the clone)
2. 3/16" CLear acrylic. (this is the monitor mod.)

Thanks John

I tested 3 different combinations of paint .

This was the first combination :

1. Krylon 1318 All purpose gray primer
2. Krylon 1601 Gloss Black Paint
3. Krylon 1301 Gloss Clear

This combination for some reason seems to work for some time Once the paint starts drying it slowly becomes duller

Here is a picture

2nd Combination :

1. Krylon 1318 Gray All purpose primer
2. Krylon 51601 Gloss Black Paint (Not sure how this is different from the 1601 except for the spray nozzle)
3. Krylon 1301 Gloss Clear

This combination seemed to work better the gloss black retained its shine even after drying.

A picture

Finally Rustoleum

1. Rustoleum 2089 Dark Gray Primer
2. Rustoleum 7779 Black Gloss Enamel
3. Rustoleum 7701 Crystal Clear

This worked the best. The coats went in real nice and the gloss stayed intact.

A picture

Overall the rustoleum seems to work the best but the second combination of Krylon comes in very very close. I will still be going with the Krylon because I still have over 6 cans of primer remaining. I will now have to get only the gloss black.

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

thanks for looking,
- wasted

EDIT : SORRY .. the updates have not been coming in quickly enough. There is just too much stuff going on right now.

One tip, adding more coats of clear will make the paint glossier Wasted. I put on like 5-8 coats of clear on the bezel of Phoenix, lol.

thanks for the testing Wasted, good job
just want to verify: did you use the same speed-paint method that I used for my latches in the intelli project?

I may have to use the rusto also since they have the right red for my case

Ha ha , I just put in about 3-4 coats each. Just because this was a test. Yes going by how things look at least 7 coats will be needed if I have to make it look really glossy.

Yes I used the same speed-paint method. Thanks for teaching me that. Painting on Azure took over a week even for the small parts because I was paranoid about painting over a not-completely dry primer.
The whole thing was done just under 2 hours. I also included product numbers. because what I realized is that Krylon for eg. has several products with the same name but they seem to work differently eg. Krylon Gloss black 51601 and Krylon Gloss Black 1601

wastedtime: How well does the rust-o-leum bond to the Krylon? If they both use the same base then there's a good chance they'll bond well.

If so, use the Krylon as the base and finish off with the Rustoleum (since you liked that finish better and have less of a supply).

Looking great, can't wait to see more.
