Looking great, can't wait to see more.
Thanks tr8rjohnk. I dont really know about paint as such. I actually had a pretty bad day trying to find the right paint for the job. After a pretty crappy shopping experience I have now decided to let go of the black completely.
I have had a pretty bad time trying to find the black that I want.

Now "The Clone" is no longer going to be black . It will be painted with duplicolor mirage (purple -green).

Yes CR. The only cans I can find around my house are the ones with 4 numbers. The 5 numbered ones now have the EZ-Spray nozzles.

I have searched practically every hardware store around the place. None of them have the right set of paint .

I called a store and asked for Krylon Gloss Black 51601 and they were like "We have the 1601 . The Krylon 51601 is semi-gloss isnt it?"

I have now decided to scrap the entire black paint on "The Clone" the monitor is still gonna be black. The Clone will now be painted with Duplicolor Mirage (purple-green) at least that way I can be assured that I will get a base/mid-coat and a top-coat that work together.

yeah, sorry to hear about that with the old cans. same issue around here too. Luckily the place by me sells a ton of black and primer so its all new cans with the cool nozzle, the clear is another story (old school) Luckily the clear sprays like a champ so I havent had an issue

good luck

I ordered a couple of sets of Duplicolor Mirage purple-green. The purple has an almost black look to it, so it should match the whole theme. Or if the whole thing ends up looking green this will be another epic failure .

well, with paint, theres always testing on some scrap material of the same type, to get an idea of the color. I plan to do that with the red for the intelli case before one particle of paint hits the actual case I have a panel piece from where I cut out for the switch plate, so I am gonna use that and do the whole set of steps (sand, clean, prime * 4, paint * 4, clear * 4)

Thanks azcrazy. This actually started off as a practice gig for "The Clone" the plan was to keep it simple and clean. but over a period of time I added more stuff and it blew up into a full grown monster.

Yes CR. Testing HAS to be done. I have a couple of scrap pieces from the TJ-07 I will use them to test the paint.

The duplicolor mirage should be here this week. but I am off on a vacation this weekend(for 3 weeks). The idea is to finish the monitor mod this week and assemble the chasis for Azure.

I have actually made some decent progress on the monitor mod but none worth an update (Mostly drilling holes , doing mockups and a little wiring.)

So you guys should see this project being completed this weekend *crosses fingers*

and sorry for the lack of updates. This has been an incredibly slow process. I am pretty sure half of you don't even remember that I am doing a monitor mod

Update Update.

I've been working on this for a couple of days but nothing worth posting was actually done. (If you guys dont remember I am doing a monitor mod )

I finally got the LED's sleeved with the Drain cleaner. This was tricky. The drain cleaner has a 1/8" ID. The wires are 26 gauge wires and 2 of them approximately account for all of the diameter. So when the LED's are soldered and the heatshrink added the whole thing is a tight fit.
The soldering had to be spot on.. A small extra solder here and there.. and the LED wouldnt fit into sleeve (aka drain cleaner )

This is how the acrylic rods will be lit . The LED's are not stuck into the rod. They just seamlessly fit in .

With all the wires in. This gives it an industrial look.. something that I was aiming for .. This sometimes looks a little excessive to me. but I am hoping that the monitor and all the wires will blend in once the monitor is painted black.

We have light
The side of the rod is not scratched. Its the residue left by the masking tape that I used.

Some more light

When its turned around

Thanks for looking,
wasted
