Update - Good news!

After a horrible week of trying to set up some paintwork with a few people, the guy over at Long Island Customs said the magic words "$150, 1 week" I am trying to arrange to get the parts out there to him today (I have to call him later) so we'll see what happens.

I was all set to post here today saying that I have decided to paint it myself, due to the fact that I couldnt arrange any pro paint, then I checked my email this morning to find good news. Ironically I am still going to have to paint a couple of things myself, but they are small things that I can do in my garage, things like the psu cage and a button or two, etc. Thats good tho since I'll get some practice.

Knowing that this is going to be taken care of by pros and look sweet (crosses fingers) is a huge weight off my back, and it was the only thing causing the hold up. I have been receiving packages here and there of finish parts etc and I was all crazy because I am looking at these cool things, envisioning the assembly, only to glance over at a bunch of unpainted case parts collecting dust - no more.

yeah it may seem that way at first, but if you add up the cost of materials, then add in the labor, and total time it would take - to end up with not as good of a finish, the 150 withers away by comparison. It happens to be the number I told my wife I would spend, and 1 week or less was what I was hoping for, so when he said 150-1 week it was almost a no-brainer.

Since I will have other projects that will all have painting involved I am going to spend some time after this project is done really researching how I can get myself set up correctly to do my own paint, or at least see if its feasible. The issue there is really some sort of booth/ventilation system. I am game to build one in my garage but like I said I have to weigh it all out. If this project comes out wicked paint-wise I might just use them again on all paint projects - but this is all speculation at the moment.

I may pick up a can of primer and black paint today so I can do the case buttons and figure out what I am going to do with the psu. Hopefully my acrylic shows up soon as I need to get that rolling as well.

This is NY, everything here is expensive $150 actually sounds exactly around what it should be. Spraying that case yourself would take like what...3 cans of primer, paint, and clearcoat each? That's like $50, with using only the cheapest stuff. LI customs will probably be using some really nice looking auto body paint



@CattleRustler - That's one good deal! I doubt it would come out bad though, if they can paint cars well then they can paint a few small PC parts

yeah I guess it's a pretty good price, now that I think about it (and have woken up )
If you want to prep your garage for painting, make it air tight with one intake fan and one vent/fan. Put filters over the intake. Make sure there aren't many places for dust to hide
and make sure you kill any mold or stuff that's growing (it's a garage, water from the car drips and can grow stuff)

$150 bucks is pretty cheap, all things considered. Most shops I've worked at would have charged twice that.
