This is looking great! You are dropping just the right amount of teasers too. I'm anxiously awaiting more... and I have no idea what I'm waiting for lol.

Also, I wouldn't have a bit of buyers remorse over that price Cattle, even without seeing the finished project. That's more than fair.

As far as this:

I wouldn't sweat the booth.

If you're serious about getting into painting, start chatting with area body shop supply stores. There should be a couple in your community. Find one that you think you can work with, and you'll be surprised how much you can learn from the fellas behind the counter.

Thanks for the sound advice Warfarin88, as always

haha, nothing approaching the level of your slick project but it will be cool nonetheless

And so my friends, it has begun. The final phase has commenced - the parts are now in the hands of the paint masters over at Long Island Customs. I will have the parts back this time 1 week from today. I cannot wait <--even my reflection is smiling HAHA.

What a weight gone, now I can concentrate on the remaining details, just waiting for the acrylic colors... :doorbell: ....>

drats, it was ups, but for the mrs... that would have been funny as hell if it was the plastics arriving but any way...

Yeah, so I should be getting the acrylics this week (monday) so hopefully I can get the shapes that I need cut in prep for friday. I also have to paint a few bits so I think tomr I will pick up a can of primer and gloss black krylon. I want to paint the case buttons and the psu case black. Luckily most of that is hidden (psu) so it shouldn't muck anything up too bad. Problem is the psu is in use so I have to work that one out.

I was thinking about arranging some of the finish bits out and snapping a few pics, just for fun and for appetite whetting purposes. I will see how I feel in a few, if not I will tomorrow.

let the paint gods work their magic, and let them not lose/damage/destroy any parts in the process.

oh and by the way, if the end color is not exactly the swatch, thats ok, we picked a richer purple to start as the base then they will lighten it up to bring it close the Krylon Gumdrop. It shall be sweet (I think I counted 4 times where I emphasized to them "not pink, light purple, more to blue than red") hehe.

oh and thank goodness for GPS, I would never have found that place, seriously

yes they do - muha

Plan for today:
-stroll over to hw store and get a can of primer and black spray paint (Krylon)
-pick up some brews next store to the hw store, lol
-sand/clean/prime/paint the two case buttons and the uv lamp inverter
-snap some pics of the finish parts that I have here, waiting for the case to come back from paint

I'll post up some pics a bit later on when I am done

thanks guys!!

I just did 4 light coats of primer on the buttons and uv inverter, then an ever-so-light-touch of sanding (basically to remove little specs of crap - so glad I sent case parts out for pro paint, so glad) Gonna spray some black now - muha!

bbialw, cheers

Jessie's Gumdrop - Day 06

So now that the case parts are off at the pro painter's shop I decided to knock out what I could while I wait for them to be done. I needed to paint the case buttons and the UV lamp inverter. Have you ever seen such a sick blue color in your life? I dont mean that like "sick dude" as in cool, I mean it like as in I wanted to vomit. No way was I putting that in the case, hidden or not.

Picked up a respirator for paint/pesticide, and a can of Krylon gloss black and grey primer

slapped in some tunes...

I think blue painters tape has to be one of the best manufatured items ever made. It sticks and blocks paint, yet doesnt leave glue after removal, and as I found out, if you score it ever so slightly, you can shape it without damaging the piece you are trying to protect. blocked off the connector slots on the uv inverter using only a razor...

taped the pieces down to a pice of cardboard and got a latex glove and the respirator ready...

krylon primer dries in ten minutes but you can flash coat things after a minute. this is two coats of primer

after the second coat I noticed a box that my wife brought home from her office. It had eyes looking thru the handle at me, so I took this pic. That aint our kid! It was kinda creepy - made a note to self to ask her about that

after 3rd coat of primer

after 4th coat of primer (sorry bright)

I let the pieces dry for like 20 mins and had a close look in some bright sunlight. they seemed to have developed some "fuzz", so I sanded them very lightly with some 400 wetordry, then used a piece of blue tape to "tack" the dust off since I didnt have a tack cloth. Then I used some coffee filter to scuff around for good measure, this is the result

Kolor time - dont touch this
this is two dust coats of black gloss

this is after the third coat

4th coat, starting to look nice and shiny

4th coat again, looks wetter than it really was, I guess its the reflections

4th coat again, parting shot. I will pull the tape in a few hours, befoe it sets too much.

Well thats it for today. That was my first time painting - it was fun but I can see how it can seriously become a PITA to do it right and keep crap out of the finish. I am glad I tried it tho. I'll see how the parts look in few hours - thanks for reading
