reminded me a bit of the kids from the grudge... freaky movie

Looks good! I never would have thought to paint the inverter... I may try that eventually

Jessie's Gumdrop - Day 06 Update

Since I got caught up gaming last night, I never removed the tape from the inverter, so this morning I went down to do that and see how the painted parts looked. There is a difference in how they look in natural light, looking at them with your eyes, vs how they appear in these pics, with the flash. I have to say they came out pretty good but these pics dont convey that very well. Here are the parts before tape removal

my pc swiss army tool has a little set of tweasers, so I used that to remove the tape (with a little help from a razor blade). Note to self: get an exacto knife.

talk about a washed-out pic. the "white" box in the center is supposed to be that sickening blue color (see day 06 update). Anyway the taped off areas for the connections and the inverter vent (square) came out pretty clean and the parts look good overall. The pics lead you to believe there is crap all in the finish. Well, there is, a little but like I said, the flash is really emphasizing it. It doesnt look like this in natural light. The buttons came out really good, which is what I was most concerned with

I am going to cut a small square of black modders mesh and super glue it over this sqare spot that wasnt painted. I think that will look cool. I didnt want to get paint in the inverter vent holes, and I didnt know of a way to temporarily seal the holes. They are real tiny, so I just taped it off.

from the other side, again, washed out - lol

So thats that, I guess. I could get into this painting stuff, its kinda fun I'll try and post some pics of the finish parts a little later on. Thanks for reading

Hey that turned out pretty good. And you thought you needed a booth and all that! :P

Camera flash's tend to do that. If you can get them in sunlight and snap a pic w/out flash it might look better. I try to take most of my shots outside in the sun for that reason. (At least on my camera) the flash tends to distort the color from what it actually is. :/

thanks, but yeah you do need a booth or something to keep crap out of the paint. I still would not attempt to paint a case or anything beyond these little parts etc, but thats just me I still have to do the psu at some point.

yeah, I should have opened the garage door like I have done in the past but its freaking hot here this weekend and its cooler with the door closed. If I go take pics of the finish parts later, Ill snap a couple of these parts without the flash.

I guess it just depends where you are. I've painted three cases outside on my work table so far with excellent results, no trash or anything, maybe you New Yorkers just have crappy air! LOL (I joke I joke! )

On the temps, I heard someone tell me today how hot it was in NY this week. Don't feel bad man, its been around 100F down here all week, with 50-65% humidity!

Jessie's Gumdrop - Finish Parts

So I brought the parts for this project up to the nice air conditioned office, to snap off a few pics and show you guys whats in store. I brought up everything except the modders mesh and I dont have the acrylic here yet, but those with both be focal points of upcoming worklog updates since I still have to cut and install that stuff when the case comes back from paint so for now lets have a peek and the other finish bits...

heres the pile of goodies - sorry no wicked WC rads or fan arrays

here's the two types of c-channel I am using. The one on the left is the stuff you can get from mnpctech (neoprene 1/16 squared over) I am using that one for the window and the vent on the right side panel. The c-channel on the right is from mcmaster-carr (neopren 1/8 rounded over) this one is for the front blowhole

thats the cd/dvd drive - the face plate is at the paint shop

picked up 8 Silverstone nickle-black plated slot covers for the unused slots. I toyed with the idea of having these painted to match the gumdrop but I guess I chose not to. If I dont like how they look I could always paint them myself now that I am such a pro :sarcastic:

UV lamp to illuminate the uv reactive acrylic work that has yet to be done. More on that in future updates. When I saw "purple" as a sleeving option I couldnt resist, plus black shrink The kit comes with a pci slot cover, with a small built in on off slide switch. I am going to disconnect the wires from that switch, and run them to the custom toggle on the back of the case

I used the dreme and a grinding stone to remove this piece from the actual steel plate which screws to the chasis for the mobo connectors. This was held onto the plate with some type of hollow rivet/crimp thing. I ground down one side and removed the part. I will use pop rivtes to reattach it. The plate is off being painted but I kept this part back for the nice stainless steel/chrome to black contrast when everything is reassembled.

ye olde pc speaker

scythe ultra kaze 120x38mm for the case blowhole intake

when I decided on the color theme for this case, or should I say, when Jessie decided, I knew exactly which feet I wanted - the machined black annodized aluminum case feet from mnpctech

black annodized aluminum case handles from performance-pcs. Does anyone know if annodizing can be clear coated as is?

switches and case wiring. I still need to do some custom wiring for the anti-jessie switches and uv lamp. everything will be black sleeved and shrinked. I am waiting to have the case back before I do it

4 black thumscrews from CrazyPC, and I couldnt resist when I found purple ones on performance-pcs.com The black one are for the case panels, the purple ones will be used on the pci slots. If I have 3 left over I may use them to mount the mobo backplate back onto the case instead of the common silver screws - we'll see how that goes/looks when the time comes.

If I forgot anything I guess it will show up when the final build starts. Thanks for reading

Yes, anodizing can be cleared over IIRC. Me and marcus000 were talking about it in another thread, its just a finish on the metal and can be painted over.

I dont see why you couldnt. A light scuff and a few layers of clear!
